Jeep Compass Petrol Variants Discontinued: A Shift In Jeep's Strategy For India?
Jeep has recently taken an unexpected step by halting the production of petrol variants of Compass in India. Last year, Jeep discontinued its petrol manual variant, offering Compass only the seven-speed DCT gearbox. This unprecedented move by Jeep has left buyers with only the diesel variant as an option.
Almost 50 per cent of the Jeep's sales consist of the petrol variants, which might bring a huge sales gap for the company in India. Dealerships nationwide have stopped taking bookings, and the carmaker has yet to comment on the decision.

The petrol variants of the Jeep Compass featured a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which produced 163bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Also, customers were given choices of a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Moreover, the Trailhawk, the top-end variant exclusively equipped with a rugged four-wheel drive system, a 2.0-liter diesel engine, and a 9-speed automatic transmission, has also been discontinued by Jeep due to its limited sales.
Jeep also discontinued special edition models, limiting the Compass SUV to just three variants - Sport, Limited, and Model S. These are only offered in a 2.0-liter diesel engine that delivers 173bhp of power and 350Nm of torque.
While a 6-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive is standard on the model, customers can opt for a 9-speed-automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive system in Limited and Model S trim levels.
The price range of the Jeep Compass starts at Rs. 21.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base model and goes all the way up to Rs. 31.64 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-end model.
Inside, the Jeep Compass comes with numerous features like a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital cluster, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a powered tailgate, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless phone charging.
Regarding safety, the Jeep Compass is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rollover mitigation, hill hold assist, a reverse parking camera, and a 360-degree camera.
Thoughts About Jeep Discontinuing Petrol Variants Of Compass
Jeep's decision to discontinue the petrol variants of the Compass can be a part of their strategy or a response to the shifting automotive landscapes of India. While the reasons for this decision is yet to be disclosed, we hope that Jeep will return with a stunning upgrade to its most popular model.
