Revolutionizing Road Safety: ADAS To Be Standard In All Hyundai Models

Hyundai India has recently made significant strides in vehicle safety, incorporating new technologies and making them standard in many of its models. With a focused strategy based on adaptive driving assist systems (ADAS), its initiative incorporates key safety features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), and Hill Start Assist.

This shift towards advanced safety features is not only designed to prevent accidents but also is a crucial step towards the democratization of these features in the automobile industry.

Hyundai ADAS

As per the recent announcement by Hyundai, ADAS is set to be a standard feature on all its models by 2025. This technology, already offered in five models, will be available in 60% of the Hyundai line-up by 2024.

By introducing ADAS in the sub-4m SUV Hyundai Venue, the brand has positioned itself as the first OEM to bring this feature to a mass-market, cementing its role as a pioneer. As Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai India asserts, the goal is to expand these advanced safety features to 100% of the line-up, thereby making them accessible for all customers.

Another technology Hyundai is focusing on is the Bluelink connected car technology, which was first introduced by the company in 2019. Bluelink enhances vehicle safety with features like stolen vehicle tracking and immobilisation, geo-fencing, and emergency assistance, to mention a few. Currently, 80% of Hyundai cars in India offer Bluelink as an option and Hyundai aims to extend this to all vehicles in the future. With the exception of the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Kona EV, all current models come with this feature standard.

The need for such safety measures becomes more palpable when considering India’s road network - the second-largest globally - and the continued rise in vehicle numbers. With an increase of 62% in vehicles on roads in the last eight years, India's roadways need to ensure safety standards match the global benchmark. This makes prioritizing safety features imperative.

Hyundai Venue ADAS

Beyond ADAS and Bluelink, Hyundai India will also incorporate other advanced safety technologies like surround view monitor, blind spot detection, electronic parking brake, and front parking sensors across their models. Other safety features like Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and rear camera are already standardized across all models, enhancing driving safety with timely warnings.

For child protection, ISOFIX child seat anchorages are available as an option across all models while three-point seat belts and seat belt reminders are standard.

The Hyundai Verna, for instance, which recently scored a 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP testing, provides six airbags as standard - yet another step that places the model among the safest sedans in its segment.

DriveSpark Thinks

In conclusion, Hyundai India's move to standardize advanced safety features across its lineup represents a significant step in the right direction. By aiming to reach full coverage by 2025, Hyundai’s commitment to safety, connectivity, and technology advancement is shaping its strategy for the Indian automobile market, setting new safety standards for others to follow.
