Hyundai Discontinues Few Variants Of Creta, i20, & Verna – Check Out All Details
Hyundai is very well known for offering numerous variants of its cars. Now, the South Korean automaker has decided to discontinue some variants of its models sold in India.
Diving into details, Hyundai India has decided to discontinue a total of 11 variants of its models in India to improve the variant mix for its more popular models such as the i20 premium hatchback, Verna sedan and Creta SUV.
Starting with the smallest car here, the Hyundai i20 range is now set to lose 4 variants in total. Out of which only the i20 Sports variant with 1.0-litre turbo petrol powertrain and manual transmission will be available in limited numbers, whereas diesel-powered variants such as Asta (O) MT, Magna MT and Sports MT have been discontinued.
Hyundai Verna on the other hand will lose the most variants as the sedan is expected to lose 5 variants in total. Among these variants that are about to become history, the Verna 1.0 Turbo DCT SX (O) is set be discontinued from this month. Whereas, Verna 1.5 D MT S+, Verna 1.5 D MT SX, Verna 1.5 P MT S+, and Verna 1.5 P MT SX will be discontinued a month later in February 2023.
Since Hyundai Creta is the automaker's best-selling model, the South Korean automaker is a bit more conservative in axing its variants. In fact, Hyundai has discontinued just two variants of the Creta SUV. This includes the Creta 1.4 Turbo DCT S+ and Creta 1.5 P IMT S. Moreover, both these variants have already been discontinued.
Thoughts About Hyundai's Decision To Discontinue Some Variants
With the upcoming RDE norms, automakers are already struggling to balance increase in input cost and price hike. In such a situation, discontinuing models / variants with less popularity will help reduce production cost by streamlining the production process. Also, this will help Hyundai reduce the burden on its customers by limiting price hike to a certain extent.
