The Fourth-Gen Skoda Superb: Top Things You Need To Know

With the much-anticipated release of the new Superb in India still expected to take some time, Skoda's global unveiling of the next-generation model of this iconic liftback sedan and station wagon has certainly stirred the industry.

The revolutionary upgrades that come with this fourth-gen Superb, especially the varied engine options with diesel and plug-in hybrid variants, are already making headlines. However, it's also the vehicle's future-forward design and interior that are drawing attention.

Modernized Design Solidified

The fourth-gen Superb represents what could be the last complete internal combustion car Skoda rolls out in several markets before it shifts solely to electric vehicles by 2030. The sedan and station wagon models of this executive flagship car maintain their familiar form but embraces a new design concept - the Modern Solid language.

This transformation is evident in the sleek lines, dynamic proportions, and a more contemporary sculptural design. The angular LED headlights as well as a noticably stronger shoulder line embody these design changes.

Impressive Exterior Styling

The Superb's exterior design maintains its traditionally sculpted curves with the introduction of the brand's new Modern Solid design language. Skoda design boss Oliver Stefani emphasized the role of aerodynamics in developing the new Superb’s design, resulting in a 10 percent reduction in drag for the sedan and a 15 percent reduction for the station wagon.

Despite boasting an increased length of around 40mm and an additional 10mm in height, the new models are also 15mm narrower than their predecessor. The modifications have also contributed to increased luggage capacity - offering an additional 20 litres for the sedan and 30 litres for the station wagon.

Stunning Interior Details

Inside the new Superb, the dashboard sports a trio of versatile 'smart dial' controls, akin to those seen in its SUV counterpart, the new Skoda Kodiak. These dials can be customised according to the user’s preference to control various functions such as seat heating, interior temperature, infotainment volume, air conditioning, and drive modes.

The Superb’s central console and steering wheel also include physical controls for crucial functions like window demisters and audio settings. In addition, the vehicle hosts a central touchscreen infotainment system available in sizes of either 10 inches or 13 inches, depending on the model.

Eco-friendly Interiors

Skoda has gone the extra mile in emphasizing the car’s eco-friendliness by using 100% recycled textiles inside the new Superb. The 'cognac’ brown leather option comes tanned using waste water from olive processing. Additionally, the brand has incorporated various 'simply clever' interior features for added convenience, such as a clip for parking tickets, a USB port in the rearview mirror, and dedicated storage for hi-vis vests in the doors.

Engine Specifications

The global engine lineup for the new Superb has been announced by Skoda. The petrol variant boasts a 148bhp, mild hybrid 1.5-litre engine while the two-wheel-drive diesel produces 148bhp, and the four-wheel-drive version achieves 190bhp.

The range-topping PHEV combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a single electric motor to generate 201bhp through the front wheels. The electric motor is powered by a 25.7kWh pack that can be recharged at rates up to 50kW (DC), enabling a 10-80% charge in just 25 minutes.

The Indian Timeline

For India, Skoda is preparing for a third-gen Superb re-entry in limited units. However, there is no specific news as yet regarding the arrival date of the fourth-gen Superb. With the world eagerly awaiting this new model, Indian enthusiasts can only hope it doesn't take too long for the Superb to hit Indian roads.

In conclusion, the unveiling of the new fourth-gen Skoda Superb only adds to the anticipation surrounding its India launch. With enhanced powertrain options, modern interior designs, and a commitment to sustainability, this next-generation model aims to offer an unprecedented driving experience.
