Fiat Topolino Embraces Disney's Centenary Magic With Special Mickey Mouse One-Offs
In celebration of Disney's centennial anniversary, Fiat has paid tribute to the iconic movie studio with five unique Mickey Mouse-themed Topolino city cars. These captivating Mickey Mouse-themed one-offs will grace the rooftop of Fiat's Lingotto factory, which is also marking its 100th anniversary in 2023.
The Fiat Topolino, which is based on the Citroen Ami city car (both Citroen and Fiat are part of the Stellantis Group), takes its name from the nickname for the original Fiat 500 that first was sold from 1936 to 1955.
Where may you think Disney and its iconic Mickey Mouse character come into this? Well, 'Topolino', translates to 'baby or little mouse' in Italian, and is a term of endearment for Disney's iconic character, Mickey Mouse.
Each of the five one-off Topolinos feature distinct themes and styles. The first is adorned with black and white graphics inspired by Disney's pioneering short film, "Steamboat Willie". Another features vibrant artwork from renowned Italian Disney designer Giorgio Cavazzano, incorporating references to Mickey Mouse's iconic head and ears outline in a celebration of the iconic house of the mouse.
A third Topolino showcases an 'M' pattern with Mickey's head on the doors, while the fourth embraces a colourful abstract design. The "street" theme is reflected in the final Topolino, boasting graffiti-style graphics.
Speaking at the unveiling of the Mickey Mouse-themed one-off cars, Olivier Francois, the CEO of Fiat, stated, "The stories of FIAT and Disney are rooted together as both Disney and the Lingotto celebrate their 100th anniversaries, and the 2 Topolinos - the Disney icon and the very first Fiat 500 - have been inspiring art, street art and fashion for decades.
