Exclusive Video: Mahindra Thar 5-Door SUV Spotted Testing In Bengaluru Wearing Heavy Camouflage
Mahindra has been developing the Thar 5-door SUV for quite some years now. Now, Drivespark has managed to secure exclusive footage of the Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV being tested in Bengaluru.
This latest footage of the Mahindra Thar 5-door test mules reveals that the SUV might have reached its final stage of the development process. In fact, the Mahindra Thar 5-door looks almost ready for production.
That being said, the Mahindra Thar 5-door is one of the most anticipated SUVs in the country. Furthermore, we expect this model to be officially revealed to the public before the year-end.
Speaking about the Mahindra Thar 5-door, the basic design of the model is expected to be almost identical to the outgoing version of the Mahindra Thar SUV. However, we do expect the model to sport slightly more premium design elements around the outside and inside to justify the premium pricing.
Along with the minor design revisions, we also expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come with additional features. This includes a larger infotainment unit. Additionally, the model is expected to feature LED lighting, an electric sunroof, USB-C charging ports, rear AC vents, and more.
Coming to the powertrain, the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV is also likely to sport the same engine options as the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV as the Thar 5-door SUV uses a slightly modified version of the Scorpio N platform.
In the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV, the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine produces 200bhp and 370Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the higher-spec 2.2-litre diesel engine puts out 172.5bhp and 400Nm of peak torque.
That being said, we do not expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to come equipped with the lower-spec diesel engine that does its duty in the lower-spec variants of the Scorpio N SUV. Furthermore, we do not expect the Thar 5-door to come without the 4WD system.
Also, we expect all variants of the Thar 5-door SUV to be offered with low-ratio transfer case, and mechanically locking differentials. On top of that, both automatic and manual transmission units will be offered across all engine options.
In terms of pricing, we expect the Thar 5-door to be at least Rs 2.5 lakh more expensive than the equivalent Mahindra Thar 3-door SUV. Moreover, we expect the most expensive variant of the Thar 5-door SUV to be priced below the most expensive variant of the Scorpio N SUV.
