Dakar 2023 Stage 12 Results: Loeb Makes It 5 In A Row As 'Nacho' Cornejo Wins

Today's stage saw competitors ride travel through the Empty Quarter back to Shaybah which included a 185-kilometre-long special stage across the sand dunes of Saudi Arabia.

Bikes

Honda's Chilean rider Jose Ignacio 'Nacho' Cornejo Florimo won stage 12 of Dakar 2023. Nacho completed the 185km stage in 1 hour, 57 minutes and 27 seconds.

Daniel Sanders took the second spot on the podium with the GasGas rider finishing the stage 49 seconds behind Nacho Cornejo. The final podium spot was claimed by KTM's Australian rider Toby Price who finished the stage 1 minute and 58 seconds behind the leader.

Hero had another good day in the Empty Quarter with two riders in the top 10 and the final rider finishing in 13th. Sebastian Buhler ended the stage in 8th, 3 minutes and 8 seconds behind the leader.

Ross Branch, a two-time stage winner at Dakar 2023, finished the stage in 10th. Branch finished the stage in 2 hours and 48 seconds, 3 minutes and 21 seconds behind Nacho Cornejo. The final Hero rider in the fray, Franco Caimi finished the stage in 13th, four and a half minutes behind the stage winner.

Lorenzo Santolino, the lone Sherco rider left in the Dakar, ended Stage 12, 5 minutes and 48 seconds behind stage winner Florimo.

In the overall rankings, KTM's Toby Price now leads Dakar 2023 by 28 seconds from Husqvarna's Skyler Howes. KTM's Kevin Benavides is third overall and the Argentine rider is 2 minutes behind his teammate Price.

Sherco's Santolino remains 11th overall, and now sits 1 hour, 2 minutes and 2 seconds behind Price. Hero's Caimi remains 12th overall and sits 1 hour, 25 seconds and 1 second behind KTM's Price.

Buhler also remains static at 25th overall and sits 4 hours, 8 minutes and 32 seconds behind Price while Branch too held onto 29th overall. The rider from Botswana is now 6 hours, 48 minutes and 43 seconds behind the leader.

French WRC legend continued to write his way into the history books as he took his fifth stage win in a row as he finished today's stage in 1 hour, 56 minutes and 21 seconds. Loeb finished the stage 3 minutes and 19 seconds ahead of Audi's Mattias Ekstrom.

Overall leader Nasser Al-Attiyah took the final podium spot, finishing the stage 3 minutes and 31 seconds behind Loeb. GCK Motorsport's Guerlain Chicherit and Mini's Jakub Przygonski rounded off the top 5.

In the General rankings, Nasser Al-Attiyah continues to lead the standings. Sebastien Loeb climbed his way into the second spot after Lucas Moraes lost quite a bit of time and dropped into 3rd. Loeb is 1 hour, 27 minutes and 10 seconds behind Al-Attiyah with Moraes a further 2 minutes and 1 second further adrift.

Stage 12 of Dakar saw Sebastien Loeb claim his fifth win in a row to take his total tally of wins at this year's race to 6 As the Frenchman continues to wonder what may have been if he had not had some bad days in the first half of the rally. The bikes though continue to be a very close race with two-time winner Toby Price in the lead.

Stage 13 of Dakar 2023 will see the competitors ride from Shaybah to Al-Hofuf, a distance of 675km. The second to last stage of Dakar 2023 features a 154-long special stage.
