Citroen C3 Aircross To Be Sold In Just One Variant – Just Another French Quirk
The C-segment SUV category is one of the most competitive and difficult automotive segments in India. So far, the South Korean automakers have been dominating this segment with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
That being said, both the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos SUVs come in multiple trim levels and offer plenty of options in terms of powertrain configuration. This gives customers plenty of flexibility to choose their ideal variant.
Now, in a bizarre move, Citroen will be offering the upcoming C3 Aircross SUV in just one trim level. Moreover, this one trim level on offer will be the fully equipped model with all the bells & whistles.
Thanks to such a configuration, we expect the starting price of the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross SUV to be on the higher side. Such a pricing strategy is bizarre considering India is a very price-sensitive market.
That being said, the model comes decently equipped with features such as a 10.25-inch infotainment unit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 7-inch digital instrument cluster, connected car tech, roof-mounted AC vents (7-seater), keyless entry, tilt adjustable steering and many more.
In terms of safety features, the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross comes with safety techs such as dual airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), reversing camera, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-hold assist and more.
That being said, there are a few omissions in the C3 Aircross as per the segment standard. This includes features such as a sunroof, wireless charging, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, LED headlamps, and 6 airbags - Citroen could have added these features to attract more customers.
Coming to the powertrain, Citroen will be offering just one powertrain configuration - A 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This engine in the Citroen C3 hatchback is tuned to produce 108bhp and 190Nm of torque.
However, we do expect Citroen to introduce a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox in the latter stages. It is also worth mentioning that this gearbox is currently being tested for both Citroen C3 hatchback and C3 Aircross SUV.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross SUV
With just one trim level, it would be quite difficult for Citoren to convince the demanding C-segment SUV customers. However, sporting the third-row seating is unique to this category, and we expect buyers with large families to opt for this model.
That being said, the upcoming Citoren C3 Aircross can be a much better rival to the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Suzuki XL6, and Mahindra Marazzo than the likes of C-segment SUVs in India.
