Check Out This World’s First Cow Dung Powered Tractor – Puts Out 270Bhp Of Power
Cow dung has a lot of significance in the Indian culture as it is not only used as a crop fertiliser but dried cow dung is widely used in villages as cooking fuel.
Now, a British company is using this cow dung in a different manner. In fact, they have made a 270bhp cow dung powered tractor. Apart from that, the company claims that this technology could be a game-changer in the energy-hungry agricultural sector.
Diving into details, CNHA Industrial (agricultural company) partnered with Bennamann (methane energy products company) to create this 'cow-dung-powered tractor' and the tractor is claimed to match the performance of a standard diesel version of the tractor with around 270bhp of peak power on tap.
That being said, this ground-breaking technology works by collecting the cow dung and then storing it in a biomethane storage unit. This stored cow dung slowly releases fugitive methane that is later treated and compressed to make a low-emission fuel with the help of a state-of-the-art processing unit.
It is also worth mentioning that this tractor comes with a cryogenic tank to maintain the temperature at a low -162 degrees to keep the methane in liquid form, This gives the tractor a very significant power and also improves the emissions. Also, this tractor was put on a pilot run on a farm in Cornwell where the CO2 emissions were cut from 2,500 tonnes to 500 tonnes.
Apart from that, the UK has also signed a legally-binding target to achieve net zero emissions by the year 2050. Overall, such initiatives will help limit global warming in the long term and control climate change. Possibly, it can also curb other resulting ecological disasters as well.
Thoughts About The 'Cow-Dung-Powered' Tractor
With this new technology, farmers will not only have a scalable and affordable energy option, but it will also be a lot cleaner than conventional fuels and overall have a significant reduction in pollution due to agriculture. Apart from that, this technology will also promote the usage of natural fertilizers and improve cattle agriculture as well.
