738bhp BMW XM Label Red Is A Bull-Baiting Flag In The Face Of The Ecomentalists

German luxury carmaker BMW has revealed the XM Label Red hybrid SUV. The BMW XM Label Red is the top-of-the-line version of the XM, the first bespoke car from the firm's M division since the M1 supercar from the late 1970s and early 80s.

So just what exactly is the Label Red version of the XM? Well, the BMW XM Label Red takes the regular XM hybrid SUV and turns the madness levels up to 11. It also features cosmetic changes that turn quite a few design highlights a delightful bright red.

The all-new BMW XM is offered in two versions, the 'regular' Label Red and the Label Red Edition, with the latter limited to just 500 units worldwide. The proudction of the BMW XM Label Red will start in August.

The BMW XM Label Red takes the potent twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain of the 'regular' XM and increases the system output by 94bhp and 200Nm. The XM Label Red is the first BMW to breach the 700bhp mark from the factory.

Under the bonnet of the BMW XM Label Red, the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8's output has risen to 577bhp and 750Nm of peak torque. When coupled with the single electric motor of the SUV, the combined system output rises to 738bhp and 1,000Nm.

The oomph under the hood means that when launch control is engaged and the 8-speed automatic gearbox races through the gears at full chat, the XM Label Red sprints from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The top speed of the BMW XM Label Red is electronically limited to 250km/h but this can be raised to 290km/h by the customers if they end up choosing the optional M Driver's Package.

The XM Label Red's electric motor is fed by a 25.7kWh lithium-ion battery pack that allows a maximum range of 83 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. In pure electric mode, the XM Label Red's top speed is limited to 140km/h.

The XM Label Red's battery pack does not support DC charging and the maximum power its AC charger can pull from the sockets is 7.4kW. This means that charging the hybrid XM Label Red's battery pack from empty to full charge takes four hours and 15 minutes.

The XM Label Red lives up to its name with its bright and bold Toronto Red Metallic highlights for the grille surrounds, wheels (22-inch as standard), window and door trim, diffuser and the XM badge at the rear.

For those hoping for something far less shouty, there is an optional Black Metallic scheme for the exterior trim highlights. The interior of the Label Red sports a red and black theme with the seats sporting red upper sections and stitching. Label Red Edition models also feature 1/500 plaques.

Thoughts About The BMW XM Label Red

The BMW XM Label Red fully unleashes the hybrid powertrain setup of the 'regular' XM and adds in a few bright red highlights and some custom chassis tweaks to produce an SUV that will give environmentalists nightmares for quite a few more years.
