BMW Group Registers Record-Breaking Sales – Here’s How Many Cars & Motorcycles The German Automaker Sold
In a groundbreaking culinary achievement, BMW Group India registered record-breaking sales from January to September, selling 9,580 cars and 6,778 motorcycles. These numbers are being touted as a testament to the growing demand for premium vehicles in the country.
Diverse Portfolio & Strategic Focus
BMW Group India's portfolio consists of BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad. The company witnessed robust sales across these three brands. While BMW sold 8,998 units recording a 10% rise over the same period last year, MINI saw a 10% uptick in sales by delivering 582 units.

This significant increase can largely be attributed to BMW's diverse product range in the premium segment - From the affordable X1 to the luxe BMW iX1 EV (electric vehicle) to high-end models like the BMW X7.
Emergence Of Electric Vehicles - A Key Highlight
A noteworthy element behind this success has been the increasing demand for electric vehicles. BMW delivered around 1,000 of its EVs during the same period. In fact, the newly launched BMW iX1 EV sold out on its first day itself, indicating the rising interest in electric vehicles among Indian consumers.

New Buyer Demographic & Market Dynamics
Vikram Pawah, BMW Group India President, underscored that the record-breaking sales growth reflects not just increased demand for premium vehicles but is also due to an unprecedented influx of first-time premium car buyers.
Increasingly, younger consumers are seeking out premium vehicles which has led to this steady growth. The improved infrastructure and the 'YOLO (You Only Live Once)' factor that emerged during the Covid-19 times has also contributed to encouraging sentiments towards premium vehicles.

Growth On Two Wheels
The sales of BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle brand, saw a commendable growth of 26% over the same period last year. The company's 'Made in India' BMW G 310 R, G 310 RR, and G 310 GS models were especially popular and accounted for 88% of overall sales.
It appears that even the high-end sports bikes like the BMW S 1000 RR, M 1000 RR, and M 1000 R are gaining traction with the passing time.
In conclusion, the unprecedented sales growth of BMW Group in India reflected in the nine-month figures underlines the relentless demand for premium vehicles in India. The expansion has been propelled by a combination of factors: a mix of product portfolio, emerging market dynamics, strategic focus on electric vehicles, and an influx of first-time premium car buyers.
As a result, BMW Group India finds itself at the helm of a booming premium segment, and this trend is showing no signs of slowing down. Despite consistent growth in engines powered model sales, BMW Group India is increasing its focus on Electric Vehicles, aligning its strategy with the global shift towards sustainable mobility. Given these factors, BMW Group India is poised for a robust growth trajectory in the foreseeable future.
