BAIC BJ60 Makes GLobal Debut In Dubai - The Everyday Offroader
Chinese carmaker BAIC launched the BJ60 offroad SUV globally at an event at Dubai's Kempinski The Palm Hotel. The launch event was attended by many dignitaries including members of the Royal family.
The BAIC BJ60 is the latest in a lineup of 'offroad' SUVs from the Chinese automaker and was first revealed to the world at the Shanghai Auto Show in April this year.

Powering the BAIC BJ60 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine that pushes out 248bhp and 400Nm of peak torque. The engine is aided by an integrated starter generator mild-hybrid system whose motor puts out an additional 13.4bhp and 50Nm of peak torque when needed.
The engine of the BAIC BJ60 is paired up with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels via a switchable all-wheel drive system that can move between 2H, 4H and 4L modes by turning a dial on the centre console. Three differential locks also help the BJ60 deal with the rough stuff.

The BIAC BJ60 features a body-on-frame setup with double wishbone independent suspension at the front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear. Braking duties are carried out by ventilated discs on all four wheels though the rotor sizes have not been divulged as of now.
As standard, the BIAC BJ60 rides on 18-inch wheels that come shod with 265/65 R18-HT all-terrain tyres. Customers can opt for larger 20-inch wheels that come shod with 275/50 R20-HT all-terrain tyres. The tyres including the spare are from the Cooper Tire Discoverer ATS range.

The BIAC BJ60 is quite a large vehicle measuring 5,040mm long, 1,955mm wide and 1,925mm tall. The wheelbase of the BJ60 is 2,820mm long and the SUV has a ground clearance of 215mm. The BJ60 can wade into water that is up to 750mm deep.
In keeping with its offroad SUV theme, the design of the BAIC BJ60 is as boxy as it comes. At the front, the illuminated 5-square front grille dominates the face of the SUV. The squares at either edge house the LED headlights.

The sides are as block as ever with the windows offering up oodles of chrome for all the bling lovers out there. The flared wheelarches play host to the 10-spoke alloy wheels while the spare wheel sits on the rear door. The rear also sports LED taillights including one that sits in the roof-mounted spoiler element.
Step inside the BJ60 and you're greeted by a blend of luxury and tech. The dashboard sports two screens, one behind the steering wheel and the other for the infotainment. The driver's display is a 10.25-inch while the touchscreen infotainment unit is a 12.8-inch screen.

Owners can opt for either 5 or 7-seater setups and there is a massive sunroof. Also present is a 256-colour ambient lighting setup, a 12-speaker audio setup with an external amp and heated, ventilated seats with massage function.
Thoughts About The BAIC BJ60
The global launch of the BAIC BJ60 in Dubai sees the Chinese firm bring another off-roading focused SUV to a market that absolutely adores them. Add in all the tech and large cabin and you've got an SUV that promises to have some fun in the dunes while also being capable of doing the everyday stuff with ease.
