The Toyota Corolla Altis Flex Fuel showcased at Auto Expo is the same hybrid flex fuel vehicle currently on sale in Brazil. The Toyota Corolla Flex Fuel's fuel lines and engine and every other component the blended fuel, touches have to be treated to keep rust at bay as ethanol can be very corrosive. The usage of ethanol in the blend means that the engine needs to be tuned differently to meet emission norms and the lower energy density of ethanol.
Underneath the smooth and unchanged body of the Toyota Corolla Altis sits the hybrid powertrain that powers the sedan. The car on the show floor is from Brazil and uses a 1.8-litre flex fuel engine that comes paired with a single electric motor.
The Toyota Corolla Altis Flex fuel can run on blended fuels ranging from e20 to e85 where the number after the e denotes the percentage of ethanol present in the flex fuel mix.
With the alcoholic blend of petrol flowing through its veins, this hybrid flex-fuel version of the Toyota Corolla Altis sedan produces 138bhp and 177Nm of peak torque which is sent to the front wheel via a CVT gearbox. The Toyota Corolla Altis Flex Fuel sports a 50-litre fuel tank that holds the ethanol blend that has seen it end up on the show floor of Auto Expo 2023.
The Toyota Corolla Altis Flex Fuel is one of just two cars powered by an ethanol blend that is being showcased at Auto Expo 2023 alongside the Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel.
