Auto Expo 2023: Tata Altroz Racer Vs Hyundai i20 N Line – Battle Of The ‘Warm’ Hatches

Tata Motors managed to raise some eyebrows when it showcased the more powerful version of the Altorz premium hatchback the Altroz Racer at the Auto Expo 2023.

That being said, we expect the Tata Altroz Racer to be a worthy rival to the Hyundai i20 N Line hatchback. As such, here's a quick comparison between the two hatchbacks.

Engine

Starting with the engine, the Tata Altroz Racer is powered by a similar 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine that powers the Altroz Turbo. However, the powertrain has been now tuned to push out a total of 118.3bhp of peak power at 5,500rpm and 170Nm of peak torque at 1,750rpm.

On the other hand, the Hyundai i20 N Line is powered by a smaller 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an almost identical 118.3bhp of peak power at 6,000rpm and 172Nm of peak torque at 1,500rpm. It is worth mentioning that the i20 N line produces 2Nm more torque than the Altroz Racer.

Gearbox

Speaking about the transmission, Tata Motors is sticking to the basic recipe of a hot hatch by equipping the Altroz Racer with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. On the other hand, the Hyundai i20 N Line can either be specified with a 7-speed DCT gearbox or a 6-speed iMT transmission.

Features

In terms of features, Tata Motors has equipped the Altroz Racer with more sophisticated features compared to the standard iteration. This includes upgrades such as a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver's display, a wireless phone charger, air purifier, an electrically operated sunroof and ventilated seats.

On the other hand, the features in the i20 N Line is on par with the standard version with features such as a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Blue Link connected car tech, sporty 3-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, keyless entry and go,7-speaker Bose sound system, a cooled glovebox, electrically operated sunroof, and many more.

Thoughts About Altroz Racer & i20 N Line

In terms of specifications, the Tata Altroz Racer looks very promising and a worth rival to the Hyundai i20 N Line. However, Tata is being tight-lipped about its intention to launch the model in the Indian market. That being said, we expect the Altroz Racer to be a successful product if the automaker decides to launch the model in India.
