Aston Martin Valhalla Commences Real-World-Testing Ahead Of 2024 Debut

First announced in 2019, the Aston Martin Valhalla, the firm's first series production mid-engined supercar, is now undergoing real-world testing. The Valhalla marks a significant milestone in Aston Martin's 108-year history and plays a crucial role in the brand's transition towards hybrid and full electrification.

The latest images reveal a design shift from the 2021 version, with the car set to enter production in 2024, limited to 999 models. The vehicle features a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine from AMG coupled with three electric motors, offering an increased total output of 998bhp.

This is a change from the turbocharged V6 and twin electric motor setup the supercar first showed up with back in 2019 when it debuted as the Aston Martin RB003. Since then, Aston Martin has split with Red Bull Racing and now competes with them in F1.

The ultimate decision to ditch the all-new V6 happened due to the pandemic and the marque falling under new ownership (Lawrence Stroll), which caused Aston Martin Martin to go up against Red Bull in F1. The V6 was instead replaced by the familiar AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, Aston Martin uses in its other cars as part of an engine deal with Mercedes.

The Valhalla showcases impressive aerodynamics, combining a large rear spoiler, with underbody airflow. Also seen is a roof-mounted intake that helps feed the AMG V8. Aston Martin is targeting a 0-100km/h sprint of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 350km/h, with a Nurburgring lap time of around six and half minutes.

The new chassis, as advanced as its powertrain, uses carbon fibre for maximum stiffness and a low kerb weight. The Valhalla utilises an F1-style double wishbone pushrod suspension at the front with a multi-link layout at the rear, providing adaptive capability for optimal ride comfort and handling performance.

Inside, the Valhalla promises more cockpit room than the Valkyriethanks to a larger overall footprint. The seats remain in a fixed position, with a movable steering wheel and pedals ensuring optimum driver comfort.

Thoughts About The Aston Martin Valhalla

The Aston Martin Valhalla, the brand's first series-production mid-engined supercar, signals a transformational moment for the luxury brand as it switches. The fact that it has changed looks once again does let us know that this could very well be the final version of the English supercar.
