2023 Kia Seltos Vs Hyundai Creta Vs Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – Powertrain Comparison
Kia India recently revealed the much-anticipated facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV. As such, here is a quick comparison of the Kia Seltos facelift with the other best-selling C-segment SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Kia Seltos: The facelifted version of the SUV is available with 3 engines and 5 transmission options. However, the most talked-about powertrain is the new 1.5-litre, turbocharged petrol engine. This is the same engine that made its debut in the Hyundai Alcazar.
This engine in the Kia Seltos produces 158bhp and 253Nm of torque. The next most powerful engine is the 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine with 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. Finally, the base 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine continues to produce 113bhp and 144Nm of torque.
As mentioned, the facelifted version of the Kia Seltos SUV can be specified with 5 transmission options. These options include a 6-speed manual transmission, a 6-speed iMT unit, a 6-speed torque convertor gearbox, a CVT automatic, and a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
Hyundai Creta: At present, the Hyundai Creta SUV is offered with just two engine options - A 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine. While Hyundai used to sell a turbocharged petrol engine as well, the model has been discontinued.
That being said, the 1.5-litre, turbocharged diesel engine produces 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. This engine can be specified with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque convertor gearbox.
On the other hand, the base 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine puts out 113bhp and 144Nm of torque. This engine can be specified with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: The Grand Vitara SUV if offered with two hybrid engine options - A mild-hybrid engine and a strong-hybrid unit. The mild-hybrid engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with an Integrated starter generator. This engine produces 102bhp and 135Nm of peak torque.
This engine option can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque convertor gearbox. It is also worth mentioning that the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is the only SUV in its segment (other than Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder) to be offered with an all-wheel-drive system.
The strong-hybrid engine in the Grand Vitara is sourced from Toyota and it uses a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson-cycle, petrol engine and an electric motor. Together, this powertrain produces 114bhp and 144Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via an eCVT unit.
Thoughts About Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, & Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
The Kia Seltos undoubtedly offers the widest range of powertrain options and this gives the model a sizeable advantage over its rivals. Furthermore, the powerful turbocharged petrol engine is also likely to attract more enthusiastic buyers to the Kia showrooms.
On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is also able to make itself stand out with its hybrid powertrain options. On top of that, the model also offers an all-wheel-drive system, making it a decently capable SUV.
That being said, the Hyundai Creta's specifications page looks a bit 'vanilla' in comparison. However, we expect the upcoming facelifted version of the Creta SUV to level the playing field.
