German carmaker BMW has revealed the 2023 versions of the BMW X5 M and X6 M. For 2023, both the BMW X5 M and X6 M performance SUVs are only offered in the Competition guise.
The new BMW X5 M Competition & X6 M Competition are also the first vehicles from BMW's M division to feature mild-hybrid technology. The 48V mild hybrid system adds a motor that provides an additional boost of 12bhp and 200Nm to the two performance SUVs.

Speaking of power, both the new X5 M & X6 M Competition draw power from BMW's tried and tested 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that pushes out 617bhp at 6,000rpm and 750Nm of torque from 1,800 to 5,800rpm. The engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels.
So what does all the power and torque from the turbocharged V8 and the mild hybrid system mean on the road? Well, both the 2023 X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition sprint from 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. The 0-200km/h sprint takes 13.8 seconds in the X5 M Competition which is 0.2 seconds slower than the more aerodynamic X6 M Competition.

Both the X6 M & X5 M Competition have the same electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. However, for those customers who prefer to ignore the gentlemen's agreement between the German car manufacturers, checking the optional M Driver's Package raises the top speed to a more crazy 290km/h.
The X5 M and X6 M Competition SUVs also bring a host of other features including double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension setups with adaptive dampers for better handling and steering response. Also present is a new system that sees the all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential work in unison with near-actuator wheel slip limitation for the first time ensuring swifter and more precise reactions to changes in driving conditions, along with even better traction.

Both the X5 M and the X6 M look more aggressive than ever before. At the front, both SUVs feature larger versions of BMW's iconic kidney grille with the X6 M sporting a new splitter element on the front bumper.
While the X5 M sports new graphics for the taillights and a spoiler integrated into the roof, the X6 M with its coupe SUV design sports a more subtle lip spoiler. Both SUVs ride on 21-inch alloy wheels as standard though owners can upgrade these to 22-inch units. The interiors of both SUVs have also been upgraded with both performance models now sporting BMW's twin-screen setup on the dash along with a whole bunch of M parts for the cabin including seats, steering wheel, pedals and seat belts among others.
