Speaking about the XC40 Recharge and the company's plans for India, Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India said, "We are committed to grow the Indian market and our plans to assemble our latest offering the XC40 Recharge at our plant in Bengaluru is a reflection of this resolute. The future of mobility is electric and as a company we have already stated that we will be an all-electric car company by 2030. Our focus on local assembly is a step in this direction. Our current range of internal combustion engine cars are already being rolled out from Hosakote plant to the exacting safety and quality global benchmarks that Volvo is known for."

The new Volvo XC40 Recharge will be launched in July with deliveries set to start a few months later in October 2022. The Volvo XC40 Recharge was first revealed back in 2018 and the electric SUV's launch in India was initially scheduled for last year. However, due to the semiconductor shortage, the launch was pushed back to 2022.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge is offered in two different guises - a single motor version front-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive option with dual motors. The single motor variant of the Volvo XC40 Recharge sports a single motor sending 228bhp and 329Nm of peak torque through the front axle.

The all-wheel drive version of the Volvo XC40 Recharge sports a motor on each axle with a combined output of 402bhp and 660Nm of peak torque. This version of the XC40 Recharge can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds and will continue to accelerate till it tops out at 180km/h.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge sports a 78kWh battery pack that allows the electric SUV to travel for a claimed 418 kilometres on a single charge. Volvo claims that the XC40 Recharge SUV can recharge its battery pack from 10 to 80 per cent in just 40 minutes when connected to a 150kW DC fast charger.

When connected to a 50kW DC fast charger, the 10 to 80 per cent charge time increases to 2 hours. Home charging with the onboard 11kW fast AC charger from 0 to 100 per cent will take around 8 to 10 hours.

Thoughts On The Volvo XC40 Recharge

The Volvo XC40 Recharge will be the first luxury EV to be locally assembled in India. This will allow Volvo to be aggressive with its pricing, which is something that it will need to do to beat off competition from the Kia EV6 and Hyundai's upcoming Ioniq 5.
