Volvo Car India has rolled out the first unit of the locally assembled Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV in India. This new electric SUV was rolled out from the Swedish automaker's state-of-the-art facility in Hoskote, Karnataka.

Earlier, Volvo Car India launched the XC40 Recharge with an aggressive price tag of Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is also worth mentioning that the electric SUV racked up more than 150 bookings within the first few hours of opening the bookings.

Speaking about the rollout of the first locally assembled Volvo electric car, Mr Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Car India, said,"We had in May this year announced that we would commence local assembly of our all-electric offering the XC40 Recharge, and today we witnessed the first car rolling off the assembly line at our Hoskote plant near Bengaluru, Karnataka. Historic as this is, today's event further strengthens our commitment of offering the Indian market a new electric model every year. The rollout is also a step in the right direction towards our goal of becoming an all-electric company by 2030."

Speaking about the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the electric SUV looks very similar to the standard Volvo XC40 SUV with an almost identical silhouette and common design elements such as Thor-hammer LED headlights, L-shaped LED taillamps, identical body lines, and a few more common design elements.

However, the Volvo XC40 Recharge does have some unique design elements to help the electric SUV stand out from the conventional model. This includes design elements such as a completely sealed front grille, a few 'Recharge' badges on the sides, a set of new 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a few more.

In terms of powertrain, the new Volvo XC40 Recharge sports two electric motors, each electric motor powering the respective axles. These electric motors together put out 402bhp of peak power and 660Nm of peak torque. Powering these powerful electric motors is a large 78kWh lithium-ion battery pack. In terms of range, the Volvo XC40 Recharge claims to do more than 400 kilometres on a single charge.

In terms of features, the Volvo XC40 Recharge electric SUV is packed to the brim with advanced electronic aids and gets top-spec features such as a large 9-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Over-The-Air (OTA) updates, emergency braking assistance, electronic parking brake, 360-degree surround-view camera, multiple airbags, lane assist system and many more.

Being an electric vehicle, the Volvo XC40 Recharge comes with an 8-year warranty on the battery pack and an 11kW wall box charger.

Thoughts About The Volvo XC40 Recharge Electric SUV

At Rs 55.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Volvo XC40 Recharge is just Rs 10 lakh more than the conventional variant of the SUV. Such aggressive pricing opens up customers to the idea of owning an electric car, further accelerating the adoption of EVs in the country.
