With the debut of the 2022 Volkswagen Virtus, the German automaker will replace the ageing Volkswagen Vento mid-size sedan in India.

Design

The upcoming Volkswagen Virtus mid-size sedan is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Volkswagen Taigun, hence, it is a size larger than the Vento sedan.

However, the design of the Virtus sedan looks proportionate. Moreover, the simple and sharp lines further help the sedan look understated.

On the inside, it feels like a typical Volkswagen design that is simple yet very ergonomic.

Features

In terms of features, we expect the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan to mimic the features list of cars such as Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Slavia.

This means the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan will come with features such as a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging pad, a fully-digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, automatic wipers, cruise control, rear AC vents, auto headlamps, auto wipers and much more.

Powertrain

Mimicking the Skoda Slavia, the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan will be powered by two engine options.

The base engine option is a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and this engine puts out 113bhp of peak power and 178Nm of peak torque.

Whereas the larger 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine produces a class-leading 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.

In terms of gearbox options, Volkswagen Virtus sedan will come with a choice of manual and automatic transmissions on all engine options.

While both engine options will be offered with a similar 6-speed manual transmissions, the automatic transmissions on the other hand differ in both the 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI variants.

The Volkswagen Virtus with the 1.0-litre TSI engine will get the 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, whereas the Volkswagen Virtus equipped with the 1.5-litre TSI engine will come equipped with a more advanced 7-speed DSG transmission.

Price

At present, the prices for the Skoda Slavia starts from Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom, India). We expect Volkswagen Virtus to be priced few thousands above the upcoming Skoda Slavia in India as the Volkswagen sedan may come with more premium upholstery to justify the minor premium on the pricing.
