History

The production of the VW Polo started back in 2009 following a market launch in 2010. The hatchback with its timeless design and well-built body rose to fame among Indian buyers, especially enthusiasts.

The Volkswagen Polo over the years has received minor updates to its design and an updated feature list to keep up with the competition. However, the biggest upgrade was the introduction of the Polo GT, which features a seven-speed DSG on the hatchback for the first time in India.

The Polo was also one of the first made in-India hatchbacks in the segment that offered dual airbags as a standard and received a 4-star Global NCAP safety rating in 2014. In its 12-year production run, the VW Polo in India has over 300,000 lakh customers.

The Volkswagen Polo rivals the Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20. However, the Altroz and the i20 are the only models that are offered with both petrol and diesel powertrain options.

Speaking on this momentous occasion, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said "The Volkswagen Polo is an iconic carline that has evoked various emotions amongst consumers. From its market introduction to date, the Volkswagen Polo has enjoyed the privilege of being the first car for a family, an enthusiast's dream and the preferred choice for a mother owing to its timeless and sporty design, safety, fun-to-drive experience and strong build quality. The Volkswagen Polo has been the brands' much-loved product that deserves a grand celebration. For this, the brand is introducing the celebratory limited "Legend edition" for the enthusiasts who will take pride in owning the last limited units of the iconic Polo."

Thoughts About The Volkswagen Polo Legend Edition India Launch

We will miss the Volkswagen Polo and its performance wrapped in a timeless German design. The Polo Legend Edition marks the end of the era and the hatchback's 12-year production run in the country. Soon, the Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20 will have one less competition in the market.
