Upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-Door Could Be A Lot More Spacious Than You May Think - Here’s Why

Though the second-generation Mahindra Thar SUV became a lot more refined and usable than the model it replaced, it did not lose any of its off-road prowess. In fact, the new Mahindra Thar SUV is still one of the best off-road SUVs you can buy in this country.

Moreover, Mahindra also retained the iconic styling of the SUV and this gave the Thar SUV a lot of visual appeal and quickly became a default choice for many off-road enthusiasts and lifestyle buyers. As a result of this popularity, the SUV came with plenty of aftermarket support to make it even more capable and more distinct as well.

Though all these qualities made the Mahindra Thar a very attractive choice, the SUV still had a major weakness considering the general mindset of the Indian audience. This is because the Mahindra Thar SUV could only seat 4 adults and barely fit their luggage.

To overcome this, Mahindra is gearing up to launch the 5-door version of the Thar SUV in India and this model has been spotted a few times testing with heavy camouflage. However, the 5-door variant of the Mahindra Thar will not be based on the same Thar platform (3-door).

Instead, the upcoming 5-door variant of the Mahindra Thar will be based on the recently launched Scorpio-N platform. Thanks to this new platform, we expect the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV to be a lot more spacious. This information was confirmed by R Velusamy, Mahindra Senior VP & Head of Automotive Product Development.

Thanks to the Scorpio N platform being used in the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door SUV, we expect the driving dynamics of the Thar 5-door to be very similar to the Scorpio N SUV. Apart from that, the 5-door iteration of the Mahindra Thar SUV is expected to be a bit more feature-rich as well.

In terms of powertrain options, we expect the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar SUV to sport the same engine options as the outgoing 3-door variant of the Mahindra Thar SUV. However, power and torque output is likely to be increased to compensate for the additional weight of the 5-door variant.

We expect the starting price of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door to be close to the Mahindra Scorpio N SUV. However, there is a possibility that the top-end version could be priced a bit higher as the Thar 5-door SUV is more inclined towards the 'lifestyle' segment.

Thoughts About Mahindra Thar 5-Door

The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door variant could become another success story for Mahindra and may even become one of the best-selling models in Mahindra's history. However, we are not sure how Mahindra will handle the production, given the waiting period for the XUV700 and newly launched Mahindra Scorpio N SUVs extend up to 2 years for some variants.
