Upcoming BMW iX1 Teased During Winter Testing
BMW has teased its upcoming SUV during its winter testing. The teased SUV is the all-electric version of the BMW iX, dubbed 'iX1'. The latest teaser also gives clarity on the upcoming electric SUV from BMW.

When launched, the upcoming BMW iX1 will be the German automaker's new entry-level electric SUV. The teaser images of the upcoming BMW iX1 were taken during the winter testing session at the German automaker's testing facility in Arjeplog, Sweden.

According to sources, the upcoming BMW iX1 will feature the German automaker's fifth-generation eDrive powertrain. Apart from that, the upcoming electric SUV also features an all-wheel-drive setup and sports dual-motor setup.

In addition to that, we suspect that the upcoming BMW iX1 to feature an identical battery pack to the Mini Countryman EV as both EVs share the same production line in Leipzig, Germany.

BMW claims that the upcoming iX1 electric SUV to have a driving range of 431kms to 438kms under the WLTP cycle. However, we expect the real-world driving range of the upcoming BMW iX1 to be a bit lower.

Moreover, the upcoming BMW iX1 will make its debut alongside the next generation of conventionally-powered BMW X1. Apart from that, the next-generation BMW X1 will also feature plug-in hybrid versions.

Though BMW is being tight-lipped regarding the features and safety systems on the next-generation BMW X1 and BMW iX1 SUVs, we expect both these SUVs to feature level-2 autonomous driving tech as standard.

Last year, BMW launched the BMW iX electric SUV in India for Rs 1.16 crore (ex-showroom, India). The SUV is also the automaker's first electric SUV and also the automaker's flagship EV.

In India, the BMW iX electric SUV is offered in the xDrive 40 guise and comes powered by two electric motors with 326bhp of peak power and 630Nm of torque. Apart from that, the battery pack on the BMW iX xDrive 40 is rated at 76.6kWh.

Thanks to this powertrain setup, the WLTP range of the BMW iX xDrive 40 stands at 425kms and the electric SUV can catapult from standstill to 100km/h in just 6.1 seconds.

The BMW iX supports DC fast charging and the electric SUV can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 73 minutes using a 50kW DC charger. However, this time tumbles to just 31 minutes using a 150kW DC charger.

On the inside, the BMW iX features a very futuristic design with its large curved display that doubles up as a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a larger 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.

Apart from that, the BMW iX also comes with features such as an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, massaging seats, 4-zone climate control, 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, soft close doors, surround-view camera, reversing assistant and many more.

In terms of safety, the BMW iX has scored a 5-Star rating at the Euro NCAP and also comes equipped with safety systems such as multiple airbags, ABS, brake assist, cruise control with braking function, dynamic stability control (DSC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a whole host of driver assistance features.

Thoughts About The Upcoming BMW iX1
With the launch of the BMW iX1, the EV market is likely to become a lot more competitive. Apart from that, the upcoming BMW iX1 is likely to attract a lot more people to buy EVs.
