Toyota To Hike Glanza & Urban Cruiser Prices On May 1st
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has announced that it will be hiking the prices of the Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser SUV on May 1.
Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has announced that it will be hiking the prices of the Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser SUV on May 1.
Toyota released a statement on the latest price through a spokesperson. The statement reads, "TKM today indicated that the company is planning to realign the prices of Toyota Urban Cruiser and Toyota Glanza, with effect from 1st May 2022. This hike is necessitated to partially offset the increase in input costs. The overall price increase has been tapered down considering the impact on our valued customers. As a customer-centric company, we remain committed to cater to the ever-evolving needs and requirements of our customers by consciously minimizing the impact of rising costs on consumers."
The Urban Cruiser and Glanza are re-badged versions of Maruti Suzuki's Brezza SUV and Baleno hatchback, respectively. Both the Baleno and Brezza recently saw an increase in the prices as part of Maruti Suzuki's recent price hike of its entire lineup earlier this month.
While the Baleno's starting price had been hiked by Rs. 8,437, the Vitara Brezza's entry-level price tag was raised by Rs 10,192. The Baleno now starts at Rs 6.49 lakhs while the Brezza starts at Rs 7.84 lakh (all prices mentioned are ex-showroom).
Toyota launched the facelifted Glanza last month at an introductory price of Rs 6.39 lakhs. The facelifted Glanza bought a few updates in the form of a new front bumper, grille, revised LED headlights and a snazzy set of 16-inch alloy wheels for the higher-spec variants. Also present are new LED taillights and a new rear bumper.
Inside the changes are a lot more evident with a new dual-tone theme for the interior along with a brand new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
The new infotainment system comes packed with connected car features, a voice assistant and also acts as the display for the 360-degree camera system. Also new on the revised Glanza are a heads up display, automatic climate control and a new steering wheel with controls for the infotainment system.
Safety features on the new Glanza include up to 6 airbags ABS with EBD, vehicle safety control, and hill hold assist.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser, on the other hand, is expected to get a whole new avatar. This is due to the fact that the Vitara Brezza, the SUV on which the Urban Cruiser is set to be introduced to the world in its second-gen form. The new Vitara Brezza is expected to arrive in a few months time and the new-gen Urban Cruiser will follow its Maruti sibling into the market soon after.
Thoughts On The Toyota Price Hike
Toyota's announcement of the impending price hike for the Glanza and the Urban Cruiser is one we've been expecting for a while now. While the carmaker has not revealed the exact amounts by which the prices for both cars will rise, we don't expect it to be a heavy one, going by the recent increase in the retail value of their Maruti siblings.
