Toyota Innova Hycross Vs Toyota Innova Crysta
It is now an open secret about Toyota's plans to launch the Innova Hycross in India.
As such, here's a quick comparison between the upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross and the outgoing Toyota Innova Crysta in terms of their design, size, and powertrain.
Starting with the design, the upcoming new Toyota Innova Hycross does not look anything like the outgoing Innova Crysta. In fact, the Toyota Innova Hycross looks more SUV-like in its design rather than a MUV.
Furthermore, design elements such as a flatter-looking nose section, slightly longer bonnet, fared and squared-off wheel arches, and all-around back cladding makes the upcoming Innova Hycross look a lot more rugged as well.
In comparison, the outgoing Toyota Innova Crysta looks very plain and at best looks like a slightly premium people mover with design elements such as LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, ORVM-mounted turn indicators and some chrome elements.
Coming to the size, the Toyota Innova Crysta is a pretty large MUV with exterior dimensions measuring 4,735mm long, 1,850mm wide, and 1,795mm tall. Also, the Innova Crysta comes with a generous wheelbase of 2,750mm.
In comparison, the upcoming Innova Hycross is 20mm longer, 20mm wider, and also sports mammoth 100mm extra space between its front and rear wheels - Dwarfing the Innova Crysta in terms of size.
Coming to the powertrain, the Toyota Innova Crysta now comes exclusively with a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with 163.7bhp of peak power and 245Nm of peak torque. On top of that, this power unit can be specified with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
In contrast, the Toyota Innova Hycross will be powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson cycle petrol engine and an electric motor driving the front wheels alone.
In combined form, this powertrain produces 184.8bhp of peak power and 187Nm of peak torque. Moreover, this hybrid powertrain enables the Toyota Innova Hycross to travel in pure EV mode for a limited distance as well.

With the launch of the Toyota Innova Hycross in India, the Japanese automaker will further strengthen its hybrid model lineup in the country. Moreover, given the demand for the "Innova" nameplate in India, we expect the model to significantly popularise the hybrid powertrain setup in the country.
