Toyota Innova EV Unveiled In Indonesia: Here’s All You Need To Know

The Toyota Innova is one of the most venerable vehicles in the Indian market. As it turns out, the Innova is not respected and loved only in India. In-fact, it is one of the most revered Toyota vehicles in several international markets, especially in Asia.

In Indonesia too, the Toyota Innova is extremely popular and a new variant of the Innova was expected to be launched at the 2022 Indonesia International Motor Show. Several Indonesian media houses had reported that a hybrid version of the Toyota Innova would be revealed.

It was only a day ago that images of the Toyota Innova under wraps surfaced and reports still claimed it was a hybrid. Finally, a few hours ago, Toyota pulled the wraps off the MUV and surprised everyone with a pure electric vehicle.

In terms of design and styling, it looks very identical to the standard Innova Crysta. Of course, there are a few quite obvious changes to differentiate the EV from the standard model. Up front is the quite familiar Innova Crysta design with the sleek wraparound projector headlamps.

However, the grille and front bumper are the major giveaways. The standard grille gets replaced by a solid fibre unit with a small slot for air to flow in. Since there's no radiator, there's no point in having a less aerodynamic grille.

Then there's the Toyota logo with the Blue detailing surrounding it. This is a signature design trait to distinguish all Toyota EVs. The nameplate of the MUV says 'Innova EV,' so we know what Toyota is going to call it. There's no apparent change of name. Finally, there are a couple of 'Electric' badges on the MUV to state the obvious.

Details regarding the motor and battery are unknown at the moment and we expect these details to be revealed soon.

Toyota Innova EV India Launch

We do not expect Toyota to launch the Innova EV in India anytime soon. However, Toyota will surely be gauging consumer response to the Innova EV in the Indian market. If there is a market for such EVs in India, the Japanese brand wouldn't hesitate to launch the EV. However, knowing that Toyota takes its own sweet time and prefers to get things done properly, we wouldn't keep our hopes high.

The Toyota Innova is an Icon. It is a car that gave a new meaning to the term MUV. Despite facing stiff competition over the years, the Innova still remains the best-selling car in its segment in several markets. Now, Toyota seems to be targeting the electric MUV segment too. If the Innova EV performs like its ICE-powered sibling, it is bound to be a grand success.
