Japanese carmaker Toyota has crossed the 2 million sales milestone in India. The 2 millionth Toyota sold in India was a new Glanza hatchback that was recently handed over to a customer at the Nippon Toyota dealership in Trichur, Kerala.
Speaking about the new sales milestone, Atul Sood, Associate Vice President, Sales, and Strategic Marketing, TKM said, "We are thrilled that 2 million customers trust Toyota for their mobility needs. In this journey towards 2 million happy customers, we have come a long way. Over the last two decades, Toyota has developed a solid foundation of renowned Quality, Durability, and Reliability (QDR) and we hope we will be able to cater to more segments as well as newer markets in 2022 and beyond, helping us achieve our ultimate goal of delivering ‘Mass Happiness to All'."
Sood added, "With changing times, we have innovated to make Toyota products and services more accessible than ever before. The virtual showrooms and increased footprints have taken us closer to our customers across regions, thanks to the unrelenting support and commitment of our supplier & dealer partners and most importantly all our employees. We thank our customers for their patronage, and we will continue to strive towards our commitment to providing an awesome experience."
The Japanese carmaker has become a very common sight on our roads with celebrities, politicians and many regular buyers swearing by Toyota's Innova MPV. Toyota is currently gearing up to launch a hybrid version of the Innova in India which is expected to bear the Hycross badge.
Toyota's Fortuner SUV also has quite a cult following among Indian off-roading enthusiasts as well as the rich and powerful. Toyota has recently brought over a few niche vehicles into the Indian market in the form of the Vellfire luxury MPV and the recently launched Hilux pickup truck.
In recent times, the marque's partnership with Maruti Suzuki has seen the arrival of the Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser SUV. The Glanza and Urban Cruiser are essentially re-badged versions of Maruti's Baleno hatchback and Brezza SUV respectively and have seen a host of new customers flock to the Toyota brand in recent times, resulting in a good hike in sales numbers.
Toyota plans to continue its push into India. The Japanese marque's partnership with Maruti Suzuki will soon give birth to a new SUV that will take on the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos in the Indian market.
Both Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are set to go all out with hybrid vehicles first before switching to pure EVs in the future. Toyota currently has two hybrid vehicles in the Indian market in the form of the previously mentioned Vellfire and the iconic Camry sedan.
Toyota is also planning to expand its reach in India with a special focus on Tier II and III areas. The Japanese marque currently has 419 dealerships/ touchpoints in the country spanning traditional and newer emerging markets.
