Tata Nexon EV Crosses 13,500 Sales Mark
Indian automaker Tata Motors has revealed that the Nexon EV has crossed the 13,500 sales mark in just two years. The Tata Nexon EV was first launched in India in January 2020 and despite facing problems like the pandemic and chip shortage, the fully electric version of the carmaker's compact SUV has become one of the flagbearers of the EV movement in the country.

What makes the Nexon EV's sales story even more fascinating is the recent spurt in sales. When Tata Motors last blew its trumpet about the Nexon EV's sales number it was April 2021 and the electric SUV had just hit the 4,000 units milestone. Over the past 9 months, the Nexon EV has been on average hitting the four-figure sales mark every month attracting 9,500 more customers in just 9 months. This means that over the past three quarters of a year, 1,055 units of the Nexon EV have been hitting the streets every month, something that would have been nearly impossible to think of a few years ago.

So just what is it that is driving the everyday Indian electric vehicle enthusiasts into the silent cabin of the Nexon EV? Well, one factor is the bonkers way the fuel prices shot up in 2021. With petrol prices hitting the Rs 100 mark and diesel not far behind, many car owners decided to go electric.

This meant that the Tata Nexon with its starting price tag of Rs 14.29 lakh (ex-showroom) became a very interesting proposition for those looking for an electric family SUV. The Nexon EV is in a world of its own in the Rs 15-20 lakh range and is currently the best selling electric car in the country.

So what else about the Nexon has made it such a popular offering for the regular car buyer? The Tata Nexon EV is powered by a single electric motor that drives the front wheels. The Tata Nexon EV's electric motor produces 127bhp and 250Nm of peak torque. The power figure is 9bhp more than its petrol sibling while the torque figure falls just 10Nm shy of its diesel brethren.

In addition to the raw performance, the Nexon EV has a claimed range of 312 kilometres on a single charge of its 30.2 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack. The battery pack supports both regular AC charging through its onboard 3.3 kW charger. The Tata Nexon EV also supports DC fast charging at a rate of 25 kW. When plugged into a 25 kW charger the Nexon EV can recharge its battery pack from 0-80 per cent in just 60 minutes.

Tata Motors offers the Nexon EV in four colour options - Signature Teal Blue, Glacier White, Moonlit Silver and finally Midnight Black which is only offered with the 'Dark Edition' of the electric SUV.

Thoughts On The Tata Nexon EV Hitting Another Milestone
The Tata Nexon EV is the best selling electric car in the country and the recent spurt in sales shows just how much more attractive electric cars have become over the past year. With a facelifted version of the Nexon EV set to be on the horizon, one which claims to offer even more range, Tata's small electric SUV looks set to become an even more attractive offering.
