Tata Motors May 2022 Sales Report - YoY Sales Grow By 186%
Indian carmaker Tata Motors has released its sales numbers for the month of May 2022. Tata Motors sold a total of 76,210 units in the month of May 2022, a 186% increase when compared to the same month in 2021.

Tata Motors sold a total of 74,755 units in the domestic market in the domestic market which includes both passenger and commercial vehicles. Tata's Domestic sales grew by 204 per cent Year-over-Year compared to May 2021 when the carmaker sold a total of 24,552 units in the domestic market.

Tata's passenger vehicle division registered a Year-over-Year growth of 185 per cent with the carmaker selling a total of 43,341 passenger vehicles in the domestic market. In May 2021, Tata Motors sold 15,181 passenger vehicles in India.

Tata's passenger vehicles powered by traditional internal combustion engines grew by 171 per cent Year-over-Year. Tata Motors sold a total of 39,887 units of ICE passenger vehicles in May 2022 compared to just 14,705 units over the same period last year.
Tata Motors is the current leader in the Indian passenger car EV market and May 2022 saw the carmaker pushing forward once again with the launch of the new Nexon EV Max. In May 2022, Tata Motors sold a total of 3,454 electric cars and SUVs in the Indian market which was a massive 626 per cent Year-over-Year growth compared to the same period last year. In May 2021, Tata sold a total of 476 EVs.
The commercial vehicles division of Tata Motors also had a brilliant month in terms of sales in May 2022. Last month, Tata Motors sold a total of 32,818 commercial vehicles which was a 188 per cent Y-o-Y growth over the same period last year. In May 2021, Tata Motors sold a total of 11,401 commercial vehicles.

Domestic commercial vehicle sales numbers grew by 235 per cent Year-over-Year in terms of May sales. In May 2022, Tata sold a total of 31,414 commercial vehicles in the domestic market compared to just 9,371 units over the same 31 day period in 2021. The biggest news for Tata's Commercial Vehicle division in May 2022 was the launch of the Tata Ace EV.
Tata's commercial vehicle exports, on the other hand, dropped 31 per cent Year-over-Year compared to May 2021. Tata Motors exported 1,404 commercial vehicles in May 2022 compared to 2,030 units in the same month last year.
Thoughts On Tata Motors Sales Report For May 2022
Tata Motors in May 2022 continued to show an upward trend in terms of sales with numbers growing by 186 per cent compared to the same month in 2021. This shows that the carmaker has recovered from the ravages of the Covid 19 pandemic and is dealing well with the chip shortage as well. Hopefully, this upward trend will continue with the carmaker pushing ahead towards an electric future.
