Tata Motors Becomes The First Indian Automaker To Produce 50,000 Electric Cars
Tata Motors has achieved yet another milestone as it rolled out 50,000 units of electric cars from its manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune. This puts Tata Motors ahead of its target in manufacturing electric passenger cars.

At present, Tata Motors has more than 80 per cent market share in the electric passenger car segment and the automaker's current electric passenger vehicle product consists of models such as Tata Tigor EV, Tata Nexon EV, Tata Nexon EV Max, and the newly launched Tata Tiago EV - Which also happens to be the most diverse EV offering in the country consisting of a hatchback, a sedan, and an SUV.

Commenting on this new milestone, Mr Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, "As the pioneers of EVs in the country, the onus of ensuring successful adoption was on us. With well calibrated product mix, strong consumer facing initiatives, we have been able to address barriers to EV adoption. We created an entire EV ecosystem with Tata Group companies to provide simple, cost effective solutions for our customers."

One of the reasons for Tata Motors growing sales in the electric passenger segment could be pointed at the automaker's increased touchpoints in recent years with its network presence in more than 165 Indian cities.
"Celebrating 50,000th EVs in India is a strong testament to how our portfolio is resonating with people across the country. EVs are offering a practical solution to problems of rising fuel price and worsening pollution. Customers are now ready to welcome EVs and we are thrilled to witness the transition from early adopters to now EVs becoming a mainstream choice for Indian customers." Mr Shailesh Chandra added.

Moreover, with the launch of the Tata Tiago EV electric hatchback, Tata Motors is looking forward to further penetrating the electric passenger vehicle market by attracting more customers with a lucrative price tag.
Diving into details, Tata Tiago EV electric hatchback received an overwhelming response from Indian consumers by managing to bag more than 10,000 bookings in just one day. Which was remarkable for a hatchback.

That being said, the Tata Tiago EV is offered in two variants - The base variant of the Tata Tiago EV comes with a smaller 19.2kWh battery pack and 60bhp electric motor capable of producing 105Nm of peak torque. This variant claims to do 250 kilometres on a full charge.
On the other hand, the higher variant of the Tiago EV is powered by a healthier 74bhp electric motor with 114Nm of peak torque. This variant also sports a larger 24kWh battery pack and Tata Motors claims that this variant of the Tiago EV can do 315km on a single charge.

In terms of performance, Tata Motors claims that the electric hatchback can hit 60km/h from a standstill in just 5.7 seconds and it can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent of its battery capacity in just 57 minutes using a suitable DC fast charger.
At present, prices for the Tata Tiago EV electric hatchback starts from Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base Tiago EV MR XE variant, and the booking amount is capped at Rs 21,000.
