Tata Motors Becomes 2nd Biggest Car Manufacturer In India: Hyundai Takes The 3rd Spot
Tata Motors has been consistently performing well in the Indian automobile market for quite some time, thanks to its strong and evenly distributed product lineup.

Now, Tata Motors has become the second-largest car manufacturer in India by overtaking Hyundai Motors. This feat was achieved by Tata Motors in the month of May 2022, where the company sold 43,341 units of its vehicles.

In comparison, Hyundai sold 42,293 units in May 2022, which is 1,048 units less than Tata Motors in the same time frame.

It is also worth mentioning that, out of the 43,341 units of vehicles sold by Tata Motors, 3,454 units were electric vehicles manufactured by Tata Motors. This alone is another remarkable feat as the automaker is dominating the EV market.

Last year around the same time, Tata Motors sold just 15,181 units. This means the company has registered a remarkable growth of around 185 per cent in terms of YoY sales figures.

This is the second time Tata Motors overtook Hyundai in terms of sales. The first time happened back in December 2021. Though all models under Tata Motors' product portfolio can be credited for this achievement, a special mention should be given to Tata Nexon.

The Tata Nexon has been incredibly consistent in its sales and the sub-4m SUV is currently the best seller in its segment. Apart from that, the electric version of the Tata Nexon is the best selling electric vehicle in the country.

Speaking about Tata Nexon EV, Tata Motors recently launched the long-range version called the Tata Nexon EV Max with a starting price of Rs 17.74 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The claimed range of the new Tata Nexon EV Max is rated at 437km per full charge, which is 125km more than the standard variant of the Tata Nexon EV. This added range is the courtesy of the larger 40.5kWh battery pack used in the Tata Nexon EV Max.

The new battery pack on the Tata Nexon EV Max is around 70kgs heavier and the overall weight of the new Tata Nexon EV Max has gone up by 100kgs. The 30kgs of additional weight comes from the added features of the new electric SUV.

Tata Motors has also equipped the Tata Nexon EV with a more powerful 143bhp electric motor in order to compensate for the added weight. This is not the only change in the Tata Nexon EV max to compensate for additional bulk as Tata Motors has retuned suspension and upgraded brakes.

In terms of charging, the Tata Nexon EV Max is equipped with a 3.3kW AC charger as standard, but the company has given customers an option to upgrade to a faster 7.2kW charger by paying an additional amount. This upgrade reduces the charging time from 15-16 hours to just 5-6 hours.
