Tata Motors Bags Orders For 250 EVs: Order Consists Of 175 Tata Nexon EV & 75 Tata Tigor EV

Since 250 electric vehicles are a big order, the delivery of the electric vehicles to Aurangabad Mission Green Mobility has been divided into 2 phases and as part of phase 1, Tata Motors will deliver 101 electric vehicles consisting of 70 Tata Nexon EV and 31 Tata Tigor EV.

At present, Tata Motors is the largest electric car manufacturer in India with a market share close to almost 87 per cent in India. This is due to the immense popularity of Tata Nexon EV in Tier 1 cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, etc.

At present, the Tata Nexon EV comes with a 30.2kWh Li-ion battery pack and most of the electricity stored in this battery pack is consumed by a 3 Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with 127.23bhp of peak power and 245Nm of peak torque.

Tata Motors claims that the Tata Nexon EV can do 312 kms on a single charge, making the electric SUV more than a viable solution for city runabouts and occasional travel to outstations.

In addition to this, Tata Motors is currently planning to introduce a 40kWh Li-ion battery pack model as part of the update. With the larger battery pack, though the Tata Nexon EV could weigh an additional 100kgs, the updated model is expected to have a claimed range of more than 400kms.

At present, the Tata Nexon EV range starts from Rs 14.54 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base XM variant and this price goes up to Rs 17.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-of-the-line Dark XZ+ Lux variant.

Speaking about the Tata Tigor EV, it comes with a smaller 26kWh Li-ion battery pack and the model has recently scored a 4-Star safety rating from G-NCAP for Adult Occupant Protection.

In addition to this, the powertrain of the Tigor EV was recently updated and it is now much more similar to the electric unit in the Tata Nexon EV with the use of the much more advanced 350V Ziptron EV system instead of the 72V electrical architecture.

Under the skin, the Tata Tigor EV comes with an electric motor with 74bhp of peak power and 170Nm of peak torque. Being electric, the power and torque output is immediate and enables the Tata Tigor EV to accelerate from a standstill to 60km/h in just 5.7 seconds.

Despite having a smaller battery pack, the lower kerb weight and the more aerodynamic shape of the Tata Tigor EV ensures that it almost matches the claimed range of the Tata Nexon EV with an ARAI certified range of 306kms.
