Tata Altroz CNG Spotted Testing In India
The CNG variant of the Tata Altroz hatchback has been spotted testing in India with emission testing equipment. However, unlike most test mules, this particular test vehicle did not sport any camouflage.
That being said, the CNG variant of the Tata Altroz premium hatchback seems almost ready for production, and we expect this model soon hit the Indian roads. Moreover, with the launch of Tata Altroz CNG, Tata Motors will be further expanding its CNG product portfolio as well.
With the launch of Tata Altroz CNG, Tata Motors will be looking forward to further expanding its market share in the growing premium hatchback segment in India. Also, given the rising fuel prices, and high fuel efficiency offered by CNG vehicles, the launch of the Altroz CNG is a very sensible option for Tata Motors.
The CNG version of the Tata Altroz premium hatchback is likely to be powered by the same engine that powers the Tata Tiago CNG hatchback and Tata Tigor CNG compact sedan.
This means the upcoming Tata Altroz CNG is likely to use the 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated engine. This engine in the Tata Tiago CNG and Tata Tigor CNG produces 84.82bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque in standard form, with the CNG fuel, this engine produces slightly lower power and torque outputs at 73bhp and 95Nm of torque. Moreover, this engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
Also, in a bid further improve the sales of Tata Altroz in its segment, Tata Motors recently introduced the automatic variant of the premium hatchback in India. However, what makes Tata Altroz DCA special is that the model uses dual-clutch transmission.
That being said, the Tata Altroz is one of the safest hatchbacks you can buy in the country and it comes with a 5-Star safety rating for adult occupant protection from Global-NCAP. Other than this, the Tata Altroz premium hatchback also comes with safety techs such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX points, and much more.
Tata Altroz premium hatchback is also very nicely equipped and comes with features such as iRA connected car technology, a touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, cruise control, rear AC vents, and many more.
There is also a diesel version of the Tata Altroz, and the diesel unit in the Altroz premium hatchback is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit with 90bhp of peak power at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of peak torque at 1,250rpm. This powertrain is suitable for anyone who does a lot of long journeys.

Tata Altroz is one of the best hatchbacks currently available in the country and the only hatchback in India with a 5-star safety rating. Though the popularity of Tata Altroz is growing, the lack of a CNG version makes it less attractive for many urbanites in the country. With the launch of the CNG variant of the Altroz, Tata Motors can attract more buyers in tier 1 and tier 2 cities.
