Skoda Slavia Now Gets A Smaller 8-Inch Infotainment Unit: Here’s Everything You Need To Know
Skoda has been receiving a lot of criticism online thanks to the ongoing semiconductor shortage that forced Skoda to replace the 10.1-inch infotainment unit in the Slavia sedan with a smaller 8-inch unit.
Though this smaller 8-inch unit is found in international models as well, the downgrade has not gone well with the customers that booked the Slavia sedan and Kushaq SUV.
Replying to a tweet regarding the matter, Zac Hollis, Skoda India Brand Director confirmed that the top-spec variants of the Skoda Slavia sedan will receive a smaller 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit.
Though the 8-inch touch screen infotainment unit retains most of the features in the 10-inch unit, it crucially misses out on the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity feature. However, the wireless charging facility has been retained unlike the rumours have suggested.
Speaking about Skoda Slavia, the Czech sedan quickly gained traction in the Indian automobile market with more than 10,000 bookings within a month from its date of launch. Also, the Czech automaker's sales volume in May 2022 stood at 4,604 units - resulting in a YoY sales growth of 543 per cent as the company managed to sell 716 units last year around the same time.
In India, the newly launched Slavia sedan replaces the Skoda Rapid sedan and it is built on the same MQB-A0 IN platform as the Skoda Kushaq SUV. Thanks to this platform, the Slavia sedan is much larger than the Skoda Rapid.
In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia sedan is 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,487mm tall - making it one of the biggest sedans in its segment. Apart from that, the Czech sedan has the longest wheelbase in its class at 2,651mm. Moreover, Slavia's boot measures at 521-litres.
As hinted earlier, the Skoda Slavia sedan comes with two engine options. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 113bhp of peak power and 175Nm of peak torque, whereas the larger 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine pumps out 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.
While the 6-speed manual is common to both power units, the automatic variant of the 1.0 TSI engine comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, whereas the 1.5-litre TSI unit comes with a 7-speed DCT.
In terms of features, the new Skoda Slavia will now sport features such as an 8-inch infotainment unit, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control system, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, rear AC vents and many more.
Skoda has not skipped any safety features and the sedan comes with plenty of safety features such as 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, an electronic differential system (EDS), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.
In India, prices for the Skoda Slavia sedan starts from Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the base 'Active' variant equipped with the 1.0-litre TSI engine and manual transmission.
Thoughts About The Skoda Slavia
The semiconductor shortage has hit the automotive market very hard. Though the decision to downgrade the size of the infotainment screen was made to speed up the production, many customers are not happy with the smaller infotainment screen.
It is also worth mentioning that the Monte Carlo Edition of the Skoda Kushaq SUV retains the 10-inch infotainment unit.
