Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI Launched: Prices Start From Rs 16.19 Lakh

Now, Skoda has finally launched the more powerful Skoda Slavia sedan equipped with the 1.5 TSI engine and prices for the more powerful iteration of the Czech sedan starts from Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Earlier, as per a leaked document, it was revealed that the prices for the 1.5-litre variant of Skoda Slavia started from Rs 16.70 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The new official pricing further undercuts the leaked pricing across all variants.

Design

The design of the Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI remains identical to the 1.0 TSI. This means the design of the sedan remains very much understated as other Skoda cars with strong design cues from other new Skoda cars such as the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Superb.

Moreover, thanks to this understated design and crisp lines, the Skoda Slavia's design will stand the test of time and will not go out of style even after a few years on the road.

On the inside, the Skoda Slavia sports an interior bearing a strong resemblance to other Skoda vehicles with a layered dashboard design and a free-standing touchscreen infotainment unit. Unlike the Skoda Kushaq SUV, the Skoda Slavia also comes with a digital instrument cluster that gives the interior a more sophisticated and premium aura.

Space & Dimension

The Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI is identical to the Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI variant, and overall a much bigger sedan than the Skoda Rapid that it replaces.

One of the core reasons for the larger size of the Skoda Slavia is its MQB-A0 IN platform, which is the same platform that underpins the Skoda Kushaq SUV, Volkswagen Taigun SUV and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan,

In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Slavia sedan is 4,541mm long, 1,752mm wide and 1,487mm tall. In addition to these, the Skoda Slavia sedan has the longest wheelbase in its class at 2,651mm - This hints the Skoda Slavia will have generous legroom for rear passengers.

Moreover, thanks to its large dimension, the boot space of the Skoda Slavia is one of the largest in the sedan category in India measuring 521-litres in volume.

Engine & Gearbox

Skoda Slavia with its larger 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine produces 150bhp of peak power and 250Nm of peak torque.

Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission. However, unlike the 6-speed torque convertor automatic in the 1.0 TSI engine, the 1.5 TSI engine uses a more sophisticated 7-speed DSG unit.

In addition to this, the 1.5 TSI engine also comes with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), which automatically shuts down two cylinders when the engine load is low. This significantly enhances the fuel efficiency and lowers emissions,

In comparison, the Skoda Slavia with the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine produces 113bhp of peak power and 175Nm of peak torque and comes mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Features & Safety

The new Skoda Slavia mimics the feature list of the previously launched Skoda Kushaq SUV and Volkswagen Taigun SUV with the inclusion of features such as a large 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with connected car tech, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.

Apart from these, the Skoda Slavia also comes equipped with features such as an automatic climate control system, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, rear AC vents and many more.

In terms of safety, Skoda has not taken any cost-cutting measures and equips the sedan with plenty of safety features such as 6 airbags, ESC, an electronic differential system (EDS), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and many more.

Thoughts About The Skoda Slavia 1.5 TSI

The Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI came with an aggressive price tag, even the top-end model was reasonably priced at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-end Style variant with Sunroof and manual transmission, whereas the automatic variant is priced at Rs 15.39 lakh (ex-showroom, India).



In comparison, the Skoda Slavia with 1.5 TSI comes only in the top-spec trim and at Rs 16.19 lakh (ex-showroom, India), for the manual variant, it is around 2.20 lakh more expensive than the equivalent 1.0 TSI model. This makes the 1.5 TSI variant steeply priced for a regular buyer.

However, for performance lovers, the punch in this engine is highly addictive and it is worth the extra money.
