German sports car manufacturer Porsche has revealed the one-off 911 Carrera Panamericana Special. The Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special is a 1 of 1 tribute car was commissioned by Porsche Latin American and Porsche Mexico.
The Porsche 911 Carrera Panamericana Special pays tribute to the marque's first-ever entry into the Carrera Panamericana in 1952 with a 356 S Cabriolet. The 1952 race car which bore the number 11 on its side and was driven by the German-Austrian Prince Paul Alfons von Metternich and the Brazilian Baron Manuel Antônio de Teffé, took the win its class that year.
Speaking about the one-off 911 Carrera Panamericana, Camilo San Martin, director of Porsche. from Mexico said, "A good part of the successful history of Porsche in sports motorsports began to be forged in La Carrera Panamericana, which for many experts was the most demanding road race in the world in the 1950s. It seems ideal to us to remember the great deeds of the brand in 'La Pana' with a unique car, the 911 Carrera Panamericana Special, a car full of details that remind us of the 356 Super Cabriolet that in 1952 not only made history for being the first Porsche to run and finish the race but was the fastest among all cars with engines up to 1500 cubic centimeters".
The one-off 911 Carrera Panamericana Special is based on a current 992-gen 911 Carrera S Cabriolet and sports a Gentian Blue Metallic paint job and Graffiti Grey fabric roof (a roof colour not offered for regular 911 models).
The 911 Carrera Panamericana Special sports the 'PORSCHE' name in white on a decal with a black background that sits on the top section of the windscreen. Another design highlight is the set of body-coloured wheels that are taken from the 911 Turbo model and feature grey centre caps. The brake callipers that sit behind these wheels are finished in black instead of the traditional red.
Other changes come in the form of the number 11 on the doors of the one-off special car. The 911 Carrera Panamericana Special also sports white painted vertical fins on the engine cover that echo the look of the 356 Super Cabriolet.
Other highlights include the interiors finished in Crayon Grey. The headrest for the seats features a logo of a 1950s helmet underneath which sits the embroidered words - "La Carrera Panamericana". The blue key case also bears the same inscription which has been engraved into its using lasers.
The passenger side of the dashboard also sports an inscription of its own - '911 Carrera S La Carrera Panamericana 1952' while the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur logo printed in Graphite Blue can be seen on the centre armrest.
The 911 Carrera Panamericana Special also features puddle lamps that project the image of the iconic license plate design of La Carrera Panamericana that was worn by the 1952 356 Super Cabriolet. The illuminated door sills also feature the individualized inscription '911 Carrera S La Carrera Panamericana 1952'.
