€7 Million (Rs 57.27 Crore) Pagani Huayra Codalunga Is A Love Letter To 1960s Le Mans Racers

The Pagani Huayra Codalunga is based on the Huayra coupe but features a fully redesigned body. The Codalunga in the name of the limited-run car is Italian for 'longtail' and most of the extra length on the new car can be found in the engine cover area. The engine cover on the new Huayra Codalunga is 360mm longer than the one found on the coupe.

Along with the extended engine cover, the new Codalunga features a new front bumper with a wider front air intake along with revised front splitter element. The Codalunga's twin side intakes pull air into the twin-turbo V12 AMG engine.

The rear section along with the extended engine cover also ditches the regular Huayra's taillights for a trio of lights. The lack of the grille at the rear also means that owners can view their Codalunga's titanium exhaust system in all its glory.

Despite the extra length at the rear and all the new bits added on, the Codalunga is actually 70 kilogrammes lighter than the standard Huayra coupe. The new longtail car also retains the active aero flaps first seen on the regular Huayra that have been used by other Huayra models that followed.

The Pagani Huayra Codalunga is powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine from Mercedes-AMG. The M158 twin-turbo V12 engine produces features a single overhead camshaft and three valves per cylinder and cranks out a mighty 829bhp at 5,900rpm and a tyre shredding 1,100Nm of peak torque which is delivered between 2,000 and 5,600rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential gearbox.

The idea for the limited run longtail model first came back in 2018 when two car collectors approached the company founder Horacio Pagani asking him to produce the model which now bears the Codalunga name.

Pagani's Grandi Complicazioni special projects division then worked with the owners over a two year period building quarter and full sized models to finalise the look of the longtail Huayra.

Speaking about the new Pagani Huayra Codalunga, founder Horacio Pagani said, "We decided to use the simple linear style of the Huayra Coupé as the starting point. We made the Huayra Codalunga longer and smoother, as if it had been caressed and molded by the wind, to design lines that were even more elegant than the coupe. We drew inspiration from the long tails of the 1960s that raced at Le Mans, which had very clean lines. The Huayra Codalunga comprises very few essential elements; we have taken away rather than added. Simplifying is not at all straightforward, and this vehicle is, above all, the result of a complex pursuit of simple ideas."

Thoughts On The Pagani Huayra Codalunga

THe Pagani Huayra Codalunga pays tribute to the massive long tail Le Mans racers from the 1960s and the fact it is limited to just 5 units would have made the €7 Million (Rs 57.27 crore) price tag seem like an afterthought.
