Nissan Z GT4 Race Car Makes Public Debut At SEMA 2022
Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed the Z GT4 race car for the first time to the public at SEMA 2022. The Nissan Z GT4 will go racing next year in the SRO Pirelli GT4 America series and Super Taikyu Series.
Japanese carmaker Nissan has revealed the Z GT4 race car for the first time to the public at the SEMA Show in las Vegas. The Nissan Z GT4 marks the first time the firm has revealed a GT-4 spec race car.
The Nissan Z GT4 was revealed back in September but SEMA 2022 marks the first time the new race car based on the Nissan Z has been shown to the public. The Nissan Z GT4 race car is priced at $229,000 and will make its official debut on the track in the 2023 season.
The Nissan Z GT4 will be made available to pilot customer teams taking part in the Super Taikyu series in Japan and the SRO Pirelli GT4 America series in the US. Nissan's motorsports arm, which is the team behind the race car will provide technical support to the teams racing the Z GT4 next year. Nissan will start accepting orders for the Z GT4 in mid-2023 from other interested buyers with the race cars scheduled to be supplied from 2024.
So what has Nismo done to the Z to make it into a GT4 race car? Well, the biggest change can be found under the hood as Nismo has tweaked the VR30DDTT 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine so that it now produces 442.5bhp and 600Nm of torque which is an increase of 42.5bhp and 150Nm of torque over the road car.
The kerb weight of the Nissan Z GT4 is just 1,410kg which is down from the standard road car that weighs between 1,581 and 1,634kg. However, Nissan does note that these figures are subject to the balance of performance rules defined by the SRO race series.
The Nismo-tuned Nissan Z GT4 race car is the same length as the road car at 4,380mm. However, the race car is 25mm wider than the street-legal Nissan Z at 1,870mm.
The Nissan Z GT4 race car shown at SEMA 2022 sports a different livery from the traditional Nismo version that was shown on the car revealed in September. The Z GT4 for the SEMA show sports a red and black livery that Nissan claims mixes its modern design cues with those from its racing heritage. One of these retro cues comes in the form of the number '23' found on a rising sun on the bonnet which Nissan states harken back to its racing liveries from the 1970s.
The Nissan Z GT4 features a stripped-out cabin devoid of carpets and any basic amenities. Instead, the race car features a roll cage, a racing seat for the driver and a flat-bottomed steering wheel with a lot of buttons and switches on it and a set of paddle shifters behind the wheel.
Thoughts About The Nissan Z GT4
Even before its arrival onto the world car scene the new Nissan Z was creating quite a bit of buzz among the car community and with the GT4 race version, Nismo may have made the dreams of many an amateur racer come true, provided they can flash the cash.
