Japanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled the Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail SUVs in India.
Japanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled the Juke, Qashqai and X-Trail SUVs in India. While the Qashqai and the X-Trail are already being tested for the Indian market, the Juke is being showcased in the country for the first time.
Nissan has stated that the testing of the SUVs began at the start of the month on the roads that surround the company's manufacturing plant in Chennai.
The Japanese carmaker has also stated that over the following weeks, it will be identifying the feasibility of models from its global portfolio for the Indian market. Once all the testing is done, the X-Trail will be the first of the new Nissan models that will be launched in the country followed by other models.
Nissan states that the testing of international models like the X-Trail, Juke and Qashqai are part of a study being undertaken to prepare for its future in India.
Speaking at the unveiling of three international models in India, Frank Torres, President, Nissan India said, "The Indian market has boundless potential, and it is critical that we introduce the best vehicle line-up to align with what modern Indian consumers want and need. Following the success of the Nissan Magnite in India, we plan to strengthen our focus and leverage our expertise on high-quality SUVs that have become synonymous with our reputation. The success of Nissan Magnite has shown what's possible for the Indian market when you combine an excellent product with manufacturing competitiveness, supported by strong government partnerships. We look forward to strengthening Nissan's presence in India and delivering further innovation and excitement for our Indian customers."
The X-Trail is offered in regular ICE and e-Power hybrid guises. The regular ICE model packs a mild-hybrid 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 161bhp and 300Nm of torque which is paired with a CVT gearbox.
The e-Power X-Trail is offered with both a single motor (FWD) and two motors (AWD) guises. In its single-motor guise, the X-Trail e-Power produces 201bhp and 330Nm of peak torque. The dual motor version of the Xtrail e-Power ups the output to 210bhp with the rear rotor adding another 195Nm of torque to the 330Nm already on offer.
The Qashqai being evaluated for India is also the e-Power model. The Nissan Qashqai e-Power offers a combined power output of 187bhp and 330Nm of peak torque. The 1.3-litre combustion engine only acts to charge up the battery pack of the Qashqai e-power.
The final car showcased at the Nissan event was the hybrid version of the Juke. The Nissan Juke hybrid also features a strong hybrid system with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and an electric motor.
