The pure hybrid version of the MG Hector has been launched in the Indonesian market. It is priced at 470 million Indonesian Rupiah which translates to around 24.5 lakh INR. However, it is sold as the Wuling Almaz in the Indian market. The pure hybrid MG Hector might be launched in the Indian market too, given just how popular pure hybrids have become in recent times.

MG Motor entered the Indian market in 2017 and launched its first product in 2019. It was the Hector that MG Motor chose as its first product for the Indian market and in hindsight, it was certainly the right choice. The SUV has impressed those who bought it and thousands of buyers still aspire to town the Hector. MG Motor India is also developing an updated version of the SUV.

While many await the facelifted MG Hector in India, a more advanced strong hybrid version of the SUV has just been launched in Indonesia. The Wuling Almaz on sale in Indonesia is essentially a rebadged MG Hector. This might at first seem confusing, but the logic is quite simple. MG Motor is owned by Chinese auto manufacturer SAIC. SAIC also has another subsidiary named Wuling and it is this brand that has a strong presence in Indonesia.

As a result of this relationship between MG and Wuling, shared products and engineering between the two brands exist. Hence, what we in India know as the MG Hector is sold in Indonesia as the Wuling Almaz. In-fact, the Wuling Almaz is powered by the same engine options that we in India find under the hood of the MG Hector.

Even the features list remains the same, except for the availability of ADAS. While the Almaz does get ADAS on one of the variants, the Hector does not. This, however, is expected to change with the arrival of the upcoming MG Hector facelift. Now, we can also expect the MG Hector hybrid to arrive in India thanks to the arrival of the Almaz hybrid in Indonesia.

The hybrid variant of the Wuling Almaz features a strong hybrid drivetrain. It gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor. The petrol engine in question is an Atkinson cycle engine that puts out 123bhp and 168Nm. When combined with the electric motor, the powertrain puts out 174bhp and 320Nm.

To differentiate the hybrid from the standard model, Wuling has made some design changes to the Almaz. This includes hybrid badging and some electric blue elements. The SUV seats seven. Other features on offer include a 10.4-inch touchscreen for infotainment, ADAS, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Automatic Emergency Braking, etc.
