Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel – All You Need To Know
Maruti Suzuki has unveiled a prototype vehicle based on the WagonR hatchback. According to Maruti Suzuki, this prototype WagonR uses flex fuel technology.
Moreover, the showcased prototype Maruti Suzuki WagonR hatchback with flex fuel technology is part of the Indo-Japnese automaker's ongoing evaluation of the flex fuel technology for the Indian automobile market.

Diving into details, the Maruti claims that the prototype WagonR hatchback has been designed and developed locally with little support from Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan. On top of that, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR prototype hatchback was unveiled in the presence of the Union Minister of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
Speaking about the prototype WagonR, a decent number of modifications have been made in the powertrain to handle the lower calorific value and corrosive nature of ethanol. In fact, the prototype WagonR hatchback comes with an entirely new fuel system technology with an ethanol sensor for ethanol percentage detection and a heated fuel rail for cold starts.
Speaking about the flex fuel and flex fuel cars, Mr Hisashi Takeuchi, the Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited claimed that the prototype WagonR hatchback running on E85 fuel was able to cut down exhaust emissions by 79 per cent compared to the petrol-powered WagonR hatchback without compromising on performance.
It is also worth mentioning that the ethanol sensor is very vital for the powertrain system to identify the type of fuel used in the vehicle in order to make respective adjustments in the powertrain management. In addition to this, engineers at Maruti have also updated the engine management system, fuel injector and fuel pump of the powertrain unit.
According to Maruti Suzuki, it is planning to initially introduce the flex fuel technology in the compact vehicle segment by the year 2025. According to some trusted sources, it has also been reported that all Maruti Suzuki vehicles from March 2023 will be made compatible to run on E20 fuel.
Thoughts About The Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel
Maruti Suzuki does not seem to be very keen on electric propulsion, instead, the Indo-Japanese automaker has been pushing massively for alternate fuels such as CNG, and bio-CNG. That being said, with the introduction of flex fuels, Maruti Suzuki will continue to possess an upper hand over its rivals until a large-scale EV revolution takes place in the country.
