Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG Arrives At dealerships

Out of these two variants of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG, the 'ZXi' variant is the top-end variant and this variant costs Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Though the model seems a little expensive, in the long term the CNG models are very economical.

Now, speaking about the new Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG hatchbacks that arrived at dealerships, the models wear the S-CNG badge to distinguish themselves from regular Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchbacks.

Other than this, the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG models also sport a CNG filling nozzle on the right side of the car. This CNG tank is mounted in the boot of the model and as a result, the boot space of the Swift CNG is barely usable.

However, unlike a few CNG cars, the CNG tank in the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is placed very low, and this slightly improves the centre of gravity of the hatchback. Moreover, the spare wheel is placed in front of the CNG tank for easier access.

Other than these changes, the Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG remains almost identical to the standard Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback. However, a few changes are skin-deep such as the usage of stainless steel pipes to avoid rusting, the wiring harness has been integrated into the vehicle to eliminate chances of short circuit and the company has even installed a microswitch for not letting the engine start while refilling the CNG.

In fact, Maruti Suzuki claims its CNG models feature dual independent Electronic Control Units (ECU) and an intelligent injection system that provides optimum air-fuel ratio for best performance and fuel efficiency figures.

Speaking about fuel efficiency, Maruti Suzuki claims a fuel efficiency figure of 30.90km/kg of CNG fuel. Running on CNG as fuel, the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, Dual Jet Dual VVT, naturally-aspirated petrol engine produces 76.5bhp of peak power at 6,000rpm, and 98.5Nm of torque at 4,300rpm.

In regular petrol, this same engine produces 87.8bhp of peak power and 113Nm of peak torque. Like all CNG vehicles in India, the Maruti Suzuki Swift also uses a manual transmission.

In terms of features, the feature list in the newly launched Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG is identical to the standard model with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, powered ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls, height-adjustable driver's seat, alloy wheels, LED headlamps with LED DRLs, and much more.

In addition to this, Maruti Suzuki has also introduced an all-inclusive subscription program for the new Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback. Moreover, the subscription plans for the new Maruti Suzuki Swift start from just Rs 16,499.

The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG will be an interesting model for many urban buyers. As such, we expect the Maruti Suzuki S-CNG to sell more in tier 1 and tier 2 cities in the country.
