Maruti Suzuki May Soon Launch Jimny In India

Speaking to TOI, Mr Shashank Srivastava, senior director (marketing & sales), Maruti Suzuki said "We will finalise our plans for the Jimny shortly. We have collected very good feedback. We will look at possible pricing, specs, and timing of launch,".

Earlier, it was known that Maruti Suzuki was analysing customer feedback in India to ensure the feasibility of introducing Maruti Suzuki Jimny to strengthen its SUV portfolio. This is to ensure the success of the model once it launches in the country.

Though the Suzuki Jimny is a compact SUV (a favourite segment among Indian consumers), the Suzuki Jimny is an off-road SUV, making it slightly less practical and more purpose-built than other compact SUVs in the Indian automobile market.

Thanks to this unique character of the Jimny SUV, it has become a double-edged sword for Maruti Suzuki in the country despite the model being highly successful and highly rated model in all the places its been launched.

Earlier, Maruti Suzuki also released a teaser of an off-road vehicle. Though at the time of the teaser release, it was speculated to be the Suzuki Jimny, the upcoming launch of the Maruti Suzuki 'YFG' SUV says otherwise as it also sports an all-wheel-drive layout.

The teaser was shared on social media platforms using Nexa's official social media accounts, and the teaser showed a picture of a desert with the tread pattern of the tyres on the sand. This teaser clearly depicts that the vehicle in the teaser is an off-road vehicle that has been designed to take people beyond the roads.

At present, the three-door version of the Suzuki Jimny is being manufactured at the Indo-Japanese automaker's manufacturing facility in Gurugram and exported to the Middle East and African markets.

Despite, Maruti Suzuki developing the 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, the Indo-Japanese automaker could introduce the 3-door version of the Jimny in the country as the vehicle is already being manufactured in India.

Speaking about Suzuki Jimny, the model is powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. This engine produces a maximum of 104bhp and 130Nm of torque and this engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The Suzuki Jimny SUV also sports Suzuki's ALLGRIP Pro all-wheel-drive system as standard. This system gives Jimny enhanced off-road ability. Moreover, this system has three modes - 2H, 4H and 4L.

We expect Maruti Suzuki to price the Jimny SUV anywhere between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Thoughts About The Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny

It would be great if Maruti Suzuki launches the Jimny in India as a 3-door variant. This will allow the Suzuki Jimny to make the best use of its rev-happy 1.5-litre petrol engine and the short wheelbase. Apart from that, the Suzuki Jimny would make a great city car.
