Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara CNG Coming Soon – Here’s What To Expect

Maruti Suzuki has been rapidly expanding its product portfolio in India with back-to-back car launches. Recently, the Indo-Japanese automaker introduced the CNG variants of the Baleno premium hatchback and XL6 MUV under the NEXA range.

That being said, Maruti Suzuki will be further expanding its NEXA product range with the launch of the CNG variant of the newly launched Grand Vitara SUV. We expect the upcoming CNG variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara to be launched before the end of this year following the launch of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E-CNG.

Speaking about the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E-CNG, the Japanese automaker has already opened the bookings for its CNG SUV. Moreover, since both the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara are essentially the same vehicles with different badges, we expect the prices of both these SUVs to be separated by a few thousand rupees.

At present, Toyota is yet to reveal the prices of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV despite opening bookings. However, we expect the CNG model of the SUV to be priced around Rs 1 lakh more than the conventional variants of the SUV.

As such, we can also expect the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV to also sport a similar price difference. Moreover, like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder E-CNG SUV, the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV will be offered in just two trim levels.

The two trim levels offered on the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV are likely to be the 'Delta' and 'Zeta' trims. At present, the Delta variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is priced at Rs 11.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India), whereas the 'Zeta' variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is priced at Rs 13.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Moreover, we expect a price premium of Rs 1 lakh for the CNG variants based on these trim levels.

Diving into other details,the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is likely to be powered by the same 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated, 4-cylinder engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga S-CNG and Maruti Suzuki XL6 S-CNG MUVs. This CNG-compatible powertrain in the above-mentioned MUVs produce 87bhp of peak power at 5,500 rpm and 121.5Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm while running on CNG.

However, this engine produces a healthier 99bhp of peak power at 6,000rpm and 136Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm while running in petrol. Moreover, the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV will come with a 5-speed manual transmission and the expected fuel efficiency figure will be above the 26km/kg mark while running on CNG fuel.

In terms of features, the upcoming CNG version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV comes very well equipped with features such as LED headlamps, alloy wheels, a 0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, 6-speaker Arkamys audio system, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, push-button Start/Stop, keyless entry, auto folding ORVMs with turn indicators, and much more.
