Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Sigma (Base) Vs Alpha Plus (Top) Variant
Maruti Suzuki recently launched the Grand Vitara SUV in the Indian automobile market and the SUV gained a lot of traction in the segment.
In October 2022, Maruti Suzuki even managed to sell more than 8,000 units of Grand Vitara SUVs in the country - Just a few thousand units behind established market leaders such as Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
That being said, the base 'Sigma' variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is priced at Rs 10.45 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the top-spec 'Alpha Plus' variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is priced at Rs 19.65 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
As such, the price difference between both these variants of the Grand Vitara SUV stands at Rs 9.20 lakh - Which is more than enough money to buy a sub-4m SUV. So, for such a massive price gap, let us see what the top-spec variant of the Grand Vitara SUV offers over the base model.
Exterior
Starting from the exterior, the top-spec variant of the Grand Vitara SUV comes with LED headlamps rather than the halogen headlamps in the base 'Sigma' variant of the Grand Vitara SUV. Other upgrades include 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels instead of steel wheels, gloss finish wheel arches instead of matte ones, and UV-cut glasses with green tint instead of standard transparent glass.
On top of this, the top-spec 'Alpha Plus' variant of the Grand Vitara SUV gets chrome lining, roof rails, a panoramic sunroof, a rear washer and wiper, and darker inserts on the bumpers.
Powertrain
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV comes with two hybrid engine options. The base 'Sigma' variant comes with a mild-hybrid engine. This powertrain is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine with an Integrated starter generator. This engine produces a total of 102bhp of peak power and 135Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the top-spec 'Alpha Plus' variant of the Grand Vitara SUV comes with a more powerful 114bhp Toyota-sourced strong hybrid powertrain. The internal-combustion engine is a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated, Atkinson-cycle petrol engine capable of producing 91bhp of peak power and 122Nm of peak torque. Apart from that, the electric motor that is part of the hybrid powertrain produces 78bhp of power and 144Nm of torque. This set-up even allows the top-spec 'Alpha Plus' variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV to travel up to 25km on pure electric power.
Interior
Stepping inside the Alpha Plus variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV gets more premium features such as a 9.0-inch infotainment unit with Apple Car Play and Android Auto connectivity, a Heads-Up display, fully digital instrument cluster, auto-dimming IRVMs, cruise control, ventilated seats and more.
On top of this, the Alpha Plus variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV also gets a more premium leatherette upholstery instead of fabric upholstery, foldable armrest, leather door trims and more.
It is also worth mentioning that the boot space on the Alpha Plus variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV is slightly smaller at 265-litres compared to the 373-litre boot in the base variant of the SUV. This difference in boot space is due to the larger battery pack on the strong hybrid variant.
Thoughts About The Price Difference Between The Base & Top Variants Of The Grand Vitara SUV
Though the top variant of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV comes loaded with many more features than the base variant of the SUV, the major price difference is due to the strong hybrid powertrain set-up in the top-spec variant.
