Maruti Suzuki Gearing Up For The Launch Of Jimny In India: 3 Door Version To Be Introduced Initially

The teaser image shows a picture of a place that resembles a desert with tyre tread marks on the sand, and the caption reading "This just in! A wild adventurous ride has been spotted making its way through different terrains! The one question is, what car is this?"

As the teaser was released using Nexa's social media wing with an off-road theme, we suspect the upcoming vehicle will be an off-road friendly vehicle positioned as a premium offering from Maruti Suzuki.

This could mean, Maruti Suzuki might introduce the all-wheel-drive version of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross or the brand could even introduce the Suzuki Jimny in the country. The latter makes more sense as many enthusiasts across the country have been waiting for the Suzuki Jimny in India.

Apart from that, the success of the new Mahindra Thar in the Indian market could be tempting for Maruti Suzuki to launch the Jimny in India.

Despite, Maruti Suzuki developing the 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny, there is a high chance the Indo-Japanese brand may introduce the 3-door version of the Jimny in the country as the vehicle is already being manufactured in India.

Internationally, the Suzuki Jimny is powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder petrol engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Ciaz, Ertiga, XL6 and Vitara Brezza. This engine produces a maximum of 104bhp and 130Nm of torque and this engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The Suzuki Jimny also comes with Suzuki's ALLGRIP Pro all-wheel-drive system as standard. This system has three modes - 2H, 4H and 4L.

Apart from this, the Suzuki Jimny is built on a solid ladder-frame chassis that allows for endless customisation for improving the offroad credentials. Also, the Suzuki Jimny comes with a unique retro charm both on the inside and outside.

We expect Maruti Suzuki to price the Jimny SUV anywhere between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

Thoughts About The Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny

It would be great if Maruti Suzuki launches the Jimny in India, especially the 3-door variant. This will allow the Suzuki Jimny to make the best use of its rev-happy 1.5-litre petrol engine and a short wheelbase. Apart from that, the Suzuki Jimny would make a great city car in India as most cities nowadays require good offroaders.
