Speaking about the recall, the recall has been classified as critical service action by Mahindra. Moreover, the issue seems to be pertaining to the propeller shaft connecting the engine to the rear axle. However, the exact number of affected vehicles is yet to be known.

If the XUV700 variant fits the above category, it should be taken to the nearest service centre where the service team will carry out all the necessary diagnostics on the bolts holding the drive shaft.

Though there have been no reported issues as of now, we suspect Mahindra has acted before something major goes wrong, and this shows the commitment from the automaker toward its customers.

Last month it was reported that Mahindra had delivered 30,000 units of Mahindra XUV700 SUVs in India - A remarkable feat considering the ongoing chip shortage and pandemic-related difficulties. However, the automaker is yet to deliver more than 78,000 Mahindra XUV700 SUVs and the waiting period for some variants extends up to 2 years.

It is also worth mentioning that the diesel variants of the Mahindra XUV700 demand a higher waiting period. However, the base 'MX' variant of the SUV has a much lesser waiting period compared to higher 'AX' variants of the SUV.

At present, Mahindra is able to produce around 6,000 XUV700 SUVs in India, but the average booking for the SUV stands much more than that number and we expect waiting periods for the XUV700 to increase in the coming months unless Mahindra further increases its production.
