Indian carmaker Mahindra has teased the arrival of an electric version of its Bolero 'Pik Up' truck. The arrival of the electric version of the Mahindra Bolero Pik Up was teased through a new video on Mahindra's Youtube channel.
The teaser video for the upcoming electric Bolero Pik Up is a light show in blue showing off some of the highlights of the pickup truck. Design features highlighted by the blue light show include the boxy shape of the front end of the pickup truck that is borrowed from the Bolero along with the classical boxy headlight setup.
The video also shows off the old school Mahindra logo, the flatbed of the Bolero Pik Up as well as the single cab setup of the pickup truck. The video ends by calling the upcoming electric Bolero the future of Pick-Ups before the 'Coming Soon' text kills off the video.
Not much is known about the electric version of the Bolero Pik Up and the specifics about the powertrain that will power this electric commercial vehicle.
Mahindra is currently working on 5 new electric vehicles for the passenger vehicle market and has set up a subsidiary called EV Co. for the same. The company had recently started working on electric Pickup trucks for its commercial vehicles division and it looks like the new electric Bolero Pik Up will be the first of these new electric commercial vehicles.
Meanwhile, Mahindra is set to reveal a host of new electric vehicles on the 15th of August which have been designed at its new Design Centre in the United Kingdom that is led by the company's Design Chief Pratap, formerly the Global Design Head at Tata Motors.
Mahindra plans to have 5 new EVs on the road by the year 2027. Four of these five electric vehicles will be designed and developed from the ground up while the fifth vehicle is the XUV400. All five electric vehicles are SUVs and will be unveiled at an event in the United Kingdom on the 15th of August.
The XUV400 will be the first of the five electric SUVs to hit the roads and will make its debut in India next month. Unlike, the other four upcoming electric SUVs, the XUV400 is based on a current vehicle in Mahindra's lineup - the XUV300. Both the XUV300 and XUV400 electric are based on the Ssangyong Tivoli's platform. However, unlike the XUV300, the new XUV400 will make use of all the space offered by the Tivoli's platform and be around 4.2 metres long as EVs are not eligible for the subsidies offered for sub 4-metre vehicles by the Indian government.
Thoughts About The Upcoming Electric Mahindra Bolero Pik Up
The teaser for the electric Mahindra Bolero Pik Up shows just how aggressive the Mumbai-based automaker is going to be with electric vehicles. The new electric Bolero Pik Up will be the first electric pickup truck to be sold in the country and along with the upcoming 5 electric SUVs help Mahindra climb back to the top of the EV market in India.
