Mahindra April 2022 Sales Report - Year-over-Year Sales Grow By 25%

Indian carmaker Mahindra has released its sales numbers for the month of April 2022. Mahindra sold a total of 45,640 vehicles in the month of April 2022, a 25% increase when compared to the same month in 2021.

Mahindra's claims its overall sales numbers rose by 25 per cent Year-Over-Year (Y-o-Y). However, in Month-over-Month numbers, Mahindra saw a sales drop of 19.72 per cent (9,003 units) compared to March 2022 when it sold 54,643 units.

Mahindra's passenger vehicle sales in April 2022 rose to 22,526 units, an increase of 23 per cent Year-over-Year compared to the same period, last year when it sold just 18,285 units. However, Mahindra saw a drop in Month-over-Month sales numbers of 21.5 per cent (4,854 units) compared to last month when it sold 27,380 units.

Mahindra's Utility vehicle sales numbers in April '22 were up by 22 per cent (3,982) at 22,168 units. In April 2021, Mahindra had sold only 18,186 utility vehicles. Car and vans sales were up by a whopping 262 per cent Y-o-Y with the company selling 358 units in April 2022 compared to just 99 units in April 2021.

However, M-o-M sales numbers were down for both Utility vehicles and Cars & Vans. April 2022's numbers for Utility vehicles were down by 23.5 per cent (5,212 units) compared to the same period last year when Mahindra sold 27,380 units. Car & Van sales though went up by 60.5 per cent (135 units) M-o-M compared to March 2021 when Mahindra sold 223 units.

Commercial vehicle and 3-wheeler sales were also up by 26.4 per cent (4264 units) compared to the previous year with Mahindra selling a total of 20,411 units in April 2022. Mahindra had sold just 16,147 units of commercial vehicles and three-wheelers in April 2021. M-o-M sales though were down by nearly 17 per cent (3,469 units) compared to March 2022 when Mahindra had sold 23,880 units of commercial vehicles and three-wheelers in the country.

Commercial vehicle sales accounted for 17,402 units sold in April 2022. This was a Y-o-Y growth of 23.3 per cent (3,298 units) compared to April 2021 when Mahindra sold 14,104 commercial vehicles. However, sales were down compared to last month by 11.4 per cent (1,985 units) when Mahindra sold 19,387 commercial vehicles.

Three-wheeler sales increased Y-o-Y by 47 per cent to 3,009 units compared to the 2,043 units sold in April 2021. However, M-o-M sales numbers were down once again by 34.36 per cent (1,034 units) as Mahindra had sold 4,043 three-wheelers in March 2022.

Compared to April 2021, Mahindra's exports increased by nearly 35 per cent to 2,703 units. In April 2021, Mahindra exported just 2,005 units. M-o-M exports though were down by 16.9 per cent (457 units) compared to March 2022 when Mahindra exported 3,160 units to markets around the world.

Thoughts On Mahindra's Sales In April 2021

Mahindra's sales are growing steadily when compared to the same period last year which shows that more Indians are back to buying Mahindra vehicles as the pandemic finally eases. However, compared to last month, sales are down, which can be attributed to the increase in prices across the range of vehicles sold by Mahindra that came into effect in April.
