Kia Installs Fastest EV Charger In India
Kia Motors has installed the fastest electric vehicle charger in India. The new electric vehicle charger installed by the South Korean automaker is rated at 150kW.
According to Kia Motors, this new DC fast charger has been installed at the Dhingra dealership in Gurugram. Moreover, the South Korean automaker has planned to install 15 more such EV chargers in 12 Indian cities by August 2022.
In addition to that, the new 150kW DC fast chargers are capable of charging the Kia EV6 batteries from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in just 42 minutes. In comparison, the Kia EV6 crossover takes 73minutes to charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent using a 50kW DC charger - That is already a reduction of 31 minutes.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr Myung-sik Sohn, Chief Sales Officer of Kia India said, "We started with the ambition of making EV ownership aspirational and launched our global best EV - the Kia EV6 in India, earlier this year. To take things further, we're now incredibly excited to inaugurate the first DC fast charger for passenger vehicles with 150 kWh charging capacity, playing our role in India's EV growth story. At Kia India, it is our constant endeavour to provide a superior customer experience and we believe that such fast-charging solutions will take away issues of range anxiety & charging time that EV owners face. We have begun the journey of providing an unparalleled EV experience across all our EV dealerships in the country and here, we will be able to cater to the charging requirements of EVs from other OEMs as well. We shall be installing a total of 15 such chargers across 12 cities by August, 2022, and are hopeful that such small steps will go a long way in fostering EV adoption in the country."
In terms of powertrain, Kia EV6 electric crossover is equipped with a large 77.4kWh battery pack. However, in international markets, the Kia EV6 is also with a slightly smaller 58kWh battery pack.
In India, we get the top-of-the-line 'GT Line' trim in two variants - RWD and AWD. The more powerful AWD variant comes equipped with not one but two electric motors - one for each axle. These two PMSM electric motors produce a combined output of 321bhp of peak power and 605Nm of peak torque.
On the other hand, the RWD variant of the KIA EV6 uses a single PMSM electric motor. This electric motor produces a peak power of 225bhp and 350Nm of torque. Moreover, the single electric motor powers the rear wheels alone.
According to Kia Motors, the AWD version of the Kia EV6 comes with a WLTP range of 424km on a full charge. However, the RWD version of the Kia EV6 is claimed to cover 528kms on a fully charged battery pack.
Kia EV6 is also a very quick machine that can put many expensive sports cars to shame. According to the company, the Kia EV6 RWD variant can reach 100km/h from a standstill in just 8 seconds and reach a top speed of 185km/h. Moreover, the Kia EV6 GT Line with dual motors can catapult itself to 100km/h from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 260km/h.
Also, the Kia EV6 electric crossover will be brought to India as a CBU model and prices for the model starts from Rs 59.95 lakh, ex-showroom.
Thoughts About Kia EV6
The Kia EV6 crossover will play an important role in the premium EV segment despite the model being out of reach for a majority of buyers. However, this EV is likely to set the tone for other EVs to come in the ma Apart from that, we expect the upcoming Kia EV6 to give tough competition to entry-level premium vehicles.
